‘Very Realistic Mannequin’

I thought this was a funny story.

He probably uses it for the carpool lane, too.
Police in New York received a call from a concerned resident Friday morning reporting what appeared to be an elderly woman “frozen to death” inside a vehicle.

But when emergency responders got on the scene in Hudson, they learned the “woman” was just a mannequin.

[...]

When officers arrived, they witnessed what appeared to be a “woman seated in the passenger seat, wearing an oxygen mask,” and not moving, according to the Times Union.

A sergeant busted open a back window to the car and couldn’t believe what he discovered.

[...]

Chief L. Edward Moore said when police got into contact with the owner, he was furious that cops broke into his vehicle.

In a press release Moore announced, "It is my understanding that the owner was incredulous that we took action in this matter. He apparently was quite vocal and vulgar to my sergeant."

He further warned about possible future citings of the mannequin.

"Just to clear the record, all citizens of Hudson should be put on notice that if you park your locked vehicle on the street on a sub-zero night with a life size realistic mannequin seated in it ... we will break your window,” he said.

I can only hope there is a professional use for the woman in the passenger seat and that it is not some guy living out a Norman Bates fantasy.

Cops did a good job.

Owner was obviously a bit of an idiot. What did he expect leaving the mannequin in the car. The Police would have broken into that car within 15 mins of it being left unattended over here.
On another note, decades ago a woman approached my Dad (who was a manager in a big retail outfit) seeking to purchase one of their male mannequins. She was an attractive young woman grazier who weekly travelled on her own a couple of hundred Klms to/from their country property. She found she attracted a lot of unwanted attention from young country men, and felt a male mannequin, appropriately attired like a Stockman, would discourage that attention.

The things some people will do for a joke amazes me. The police should have impounded his car.

Apparently he was working for a company that makes medical equipment and was using it as a training aid. I still don't have a lot of sympathy for his smashed window, he could've stored it more discreetly. The police did absolutely the right thing.
