Chance to buy pappy. Question about price?

Got an opportunity to buy some pappy.

399 for 10 year
499 for 12 year

Thoughts?

Just found it at my local liquor store for a bit less...I forget but I think 12 year was $375. I can confirm if you need.

Prices offered to OP are too high, unless it's needed immediately for some
reason.......

What would be a reasonable counter offer?

In my opinion it's not, there are a lot better bourbons out there. If you come across a bottle, blind it. Pappy has never come out on top for me or the other guys. It's more about impressing your friends, which I'm guilty of too.

I have to disagree. PVW15 is the best bourbon I've ever tasted. No doubt it's way overpriced and there are plenty of other great brands to choose from. I have yet to open my PVW20 but if it's anything like the 15yo I will cherish every drop.

I've seen bottles advertised recently on a couple other forums for $350 and $425 "all-in", meaning shipping included.

If I'm ever in Kentucky, I'm going to stop by and let's blind taste 10 different Bourbons. If you pick a pappy #1, I'll stand corrected. At either rate, we'll have a good time.

My particular favorite is the 2013 Four Roses Limited Edition.

At least we'll have fun proving who's right and who's wrong.

Four Roses is always a nice pour.

Amen. It's the exclusivity factor. People can't get it which makes them want it more. Very similar to the DaytonaC.

I just picked up the 10 year for $90 at Total Wine but I guess $400 is what the secondary market is demanding, which is absurd. While it's a great bourbon it's not worth $400. Buy yourself 6-7 good bourbons like Blantons and Four Roses single barrel with that money instead.

I agree with Dan that the 15 yo is the best bourbon I've ever tasted but I don't think I'd even pay $400 for that.

ive had all the pappys.

blantons and basils hayden are just as tasty. but this is coming from a kid who grew up on jim beam and elijah craig.

im not saying that pappy isnt fantastic. but youre paying not me if its 1200 because id rather blow that money on something a little more entertaining than getting drunk on over priced alcohol.

Well either the price went up since we are getting close to the holidays or I was wrong. Your prices were the same as my local liquor store...
10y $399
12y $499

Pappy is good but not that good...unless of course you have to have it ;-)

Except I'd argue pappy is far more overpriced at its 500% + premiums.

Thank god people aren't paying 60k for 116500s

Spend your money on whatever you want, but those prices are crazy. Keep in mind that the MSRP of those bottles is in the neighborhood of 10% of the aftermarket price. You're paying for some friend of the retailer's Rolex.
It's fine whiskey, but don't delude yourself that it's 300-1000% better that what you can commonly source.
I love fine whisky and I'm not afraid to shell out some coin, but it's got to be worth the premium.
Your money though.

Pappy is good,even very good.
I really enjoy the caramel and vanilla flavor. I like the 20 a bit better than the 15.
Haven't tried the 23. Waiting for a friend to return to the USA to try it.

I only try a dram on special occasions.

I wouldn't pay more than retail unless it was a gift.
Makers 46 tastes similar. EH Taylor Single barrel is also similar.
Look for wheated bourbons.

I owe my addiction to my enablers,dP,Marc,Manny and others!
YMMV!
