Neck tie recommendations

Looking for some input on neck ties. I was thinking about some with a maximum budget of $250, but ideally would like to spend around $100.

I only know basic brands but was going to look at hermes, brooks brothers, maybe look at nordstroms. So my question is two fold, which brands/stores and should I consider or are there specific ties you guys love?

TIA

I have always had a weakness for Hermes. Had many Hermes ties when I worked. But you either like them or you don't. One thing, Hermes ties hold their value pretty well if you ever retire.

I read somewhere that Hermes has changed their standard tie width to 3in which is disappointing.

Neck tie recommendations

From Hermes to Brooks brothers to Nordstrom covers nearly the entire spectrum of price range.

Unless you're a stickler for a particular brand or pattern, every designer under the sun makes decent ties. Hermes is the one standout as nobody really tries to duplicate it with much success.

If you're looking for a proper tie. look for a designer that makes 7 fold ties. It's made of one piece of fabric, folded seven times to form a tire. Hence the name. Anything else is a piece of fabric wrapped around a lining. They usually run a little thicker but form a much nicer and fuller knot

Sam Hober. Hand made ties. They are in Thailand and you benefit immensely from reduced labor costs there. The fabrics are amazing. Turn around times are short, and priced within your budget.

Zegna or Hermes ties are what I normally wear. But necktie design are very individualistic. Go for the style / color you like instead of the brand.

Easy:

Go to local shopping centre.

Find a menswear shop.

Find tie rack.

Select the colour and width you like.

Wear tie to next function.

Hang tie back on archive rack.

Repeat : Repeat : Repeat.

I hate wearing ties - although I have to wear full suits two - three times a week.
Zegna, and Vakko (a Turkish brand) are my two favourites.

Kiton makes good 7-fold ties. I think they cost around $250 but you can find them discounted (sometimes steeply) from various online sellers

I also like a website called Knottery. They make ties in Brooklyn, NY. Prices are in $50-100 range.

Having lived in Tucson, in some places they were against the law.

This is what happens to the offending objects when worn...

On the other hand how about a Jerry Garcia?

At first I didn't give a .... and bought a few from suitsupply. Now I have bought two 7folds from Cavallaro Napoli (50-100 range) and one from Altea Milano (100+ range). I will never go back to the 'cheaper' ties, the fabric and overall quality is definitely better.

I'd like to get my hands on a Hermes and Zegna tie, those must be magnificent.

I spent 30 minutes sorting through the ties hanging in the Hermes boutique at DOH last week, and to be honest, they weren't as good as the Sam Hober ties I buy. Style Forum turned me on to Sam Hober and I'll never go back to RTW now that I can get a very high quality bespoke 7 fold tie for less than $160.

I will check them out when I'm in 'need' for a new tie

Top of the line are Hermes and Ferragamo. Curiously, the american made Vineyard Vines look like both of them (from afar) at a better price. The ties from VV were all the rage in DC years ago, spotted in countless power pictures--on both sides of the aisle.

Without being to detailed I would stick with the major Italian designers. Brioni, Kiton, Zegna and I would throw in Tom Ford for good measure. Go to Neiman Marcus or another high end shop and take a look. I am currently into solid ties as they match and pair the best with a limited amount.

That would indeed be sad as the narrow width, regardless of current trend, is what set Hermes apart.

I kept a couple if I have to dress up, but sold the rest at a very good price to a luxury second hand store, where Hermes ties are always in demand. I sold about 15 of them. My wife has 30 Hermes scarves, which are in high demand on the secondary market as well.
