Why not ship fakes, buyer will swop out, and you end up with genuine to then sell to shops in Europe.

With all the scams you guys have made me aware of, I think the smartest way to sell luxury watches is to find trusted appraisers near the area of the buyer and send the watch to the appraiser. That way, there will be no risk, not by the buyer and not by the seller. And to use Fedex fully insured with Parcel Pro. If I could only find a list of such appraisers, I could limit myself to selling watches to buyers that are within reach of them. The appraiser would act as an intermediary, only giving the buyer the watch once payment was made. Yes, it would mean having to pay the appraiser a small fee for the service, but I think it would be worth it and would allow for much more sales to be made.

Or to an escrow service, one that will allow the potential buyer to inspect it before paying for it

I think (personally) we should be extremely careful tutoring people in protective measures or what identifies a fake.

Just my 2 cents

X2 Especially from brand spanking new members with zero history on TRF smh

Wow this whole subject has me concerned. I have been ripped off as a buyer on eBay before. Now I need to worry as a seller? I would love to sell on TRF and probably will at some point but your return (potentially) is much higher on eBay, even after fees.

Crown & Calliber offers a consignment service where you sell through them. But their 19.5% cut is pretty steep. I would consider maybe half that to be reasonable.

Has anyone set up a separate bank account that PayPal feeds in to? Then when the payment comes immediately withdraw the funds?

Ebay and Paypal are not safe for sellers, don't sell anything you can't afford to lose. There are too many scam buyers who know how to play the system. I've had two now, one (an expensive camera lens) I managed to get back, the other (a cheap watch) I didn't.

I would never sell a Rolex on ebay, and I would certainly never accept PayPal for one.

So what about craigslist and doing a face-to-face cash transaction? I realize there are certain personal risks one takes but I am familiar with how to manage those.

That's fine if the F2F is handled properly, but you certainly limit your market by doing so. I've listed several watches for sale locally on CL, and have never once gotten a legit inquiry.

Answer to the question. Don't buy on ebay. You have Rolex or a Trusted dealer if you want that or the best option is to buy from a trusted dealer here on TRF. I am sorry if this is a repeat but I am just answering the question and not reading the full thread.

"A trusted dealer here on TRF" - how would I find one?

I'm curious to know how you would protect yourself when buying your stock?

The only sure way I think when dealing with Ebay is a face 2 face meeting with a witness on hand and film the transaction. Using PayPal means due to their ridiculous 180 days grace to the buyer & their unscrupulous buyer bias, you cannot presume that that money is yours for just under 6 months. Any dispute started by the buyer with a "not as described" within 180 days means that they will win the case, they will be refunded by PayPal doing a chargeback and if you are lucky you may get your watch back in God knows what state....
