The size Rolex advertises is 40mm and does not include crown nor pushers. Before quibbling about your measurements, I'd suggest asking where they measure the cross-section of case diameter - you may see a .45mm difference but not a 2mm difference.

Over time some models have been given "maxi cases" which are beefier in lug thickness, etc.

Believe me, I have try to discover where they actually measure the case diameter. Apparently Rolex does not communicate via email whatsoever.

A lot of people say that the correct measurement is from 8h to 2h. That's how Patek Philippe does for instance.

And if you measure the case from 8h-2h, you get 40mm in Sub and GMT II and 38.57 in Daytona

And please, here do you measure to see only a .45mm difference?

Cheers

In reality it isn't "measured", it is engineered/designed. You begin with a circle of a certain diameter on a drawing board - then you design and machine the crown landing and add the pusher/guard bumpouts and add flowing lugs, then final machine and finishe..

When it's done you have an approximation of that original diameter. If it's around 39, you round up to 40 because that has a nice ring to it and fits in with the other boys..
