New Submariner want to wear it on wkends

I'm brand new to this site and I can't get a straight anwser online. A friend told about this site.

My wife just bought me a new 2011 submariner. I'm planing on only wearing it on the weekends or on special events.

Do I need to get a watch winder? or is it bad to just keep in the box and wind it everytime I use it?

I don't think it will do any damage to wind it up each time, but why only wear it on the weekends?

My dentist back home used to clean my teeth while wearing an IWC Perpetual Big Pilot - so I think a Submariner can handle it

Hi gvargas

Welcome to the forum.

As for the above I would say

1 No.

2 No. If you meant to type 'best' instead of 'bad', then I would say keeping it in the box and winding it when you wear it will be fine.

The Sub is a very nice watch.

It would be a shame to wear it only on weekends. Don't worry about damaging it. It's built like a tank. Sure you could find ways to damage it but I've had mine on my wrist every day for 3 yrs and it hardly has a scratch. I take it in the water, to the gym, in a military plane (my job) and it still looks good in conjunction with a suit.

Lots of posts on here about winders and there are two camps, some that believe that there is no major harm in using them, and others that feel a rolex should only be worn and stored. I do both, I like to keep my Sub on a winder but my Daytona I keep in my drawer waiting for when I pull it out every other weekend or so.

No need for a watch winder. Besides, why wear it just on weekends & special occasions? I'd wear it every day.

Is it true that a dentist's favorite time of day is 2:30?

I say wear it all the time. A Submariner can take a lot of abuse. I wish my dentist would wear a Rolex so we could have something to talk about while I'm in that chair.

its really bad not to wear it every minute of every day.

its feelings will surely be hurt and it will wonder how come you only see it on the weekends.... it will wonder who is taking your time during the week and eventually it will effect your relationship as the questions begin to pile up.........maybe

seriously, meant to be worn... LOTS!

I also reserve my "nicer" watches for the weekend or for after work hours... don't need to be wearing any nice watches at work for people to start gossiping.

Regarding the winder use, as someone already stated, there are two schools of thought regarding this topic. IMHO, if you only have that one watch, then get a winder.

If you don't mind winding it and setting it every week, the watch will be fine.

Where you draw the line ?? Your friends start gossiping ? Maybe the guys in the pub ? Guys you play golf with ? I fell into that trap back in the mid 90's for about 3/ 4 months when I bought my first - what I considered - proper watch. It was an Omega SMP. Then I just wore it solid for 10 years before I got my SD. Mostly ever day unless a need to take it off.

After a few weeks you don't even give it a 2nd thought

If you're a dentist or physician, etc. they already know you're making $200k and up. No need to hide it. You roll in to work in a rover/Benz/BMW right? They cost 5-10 times more than a new sub.

A dentist making 200k. That is more reason to floss at night and brush 3 times a day.

IMO - a winder isn't required for a watch with simple complication movement.

I like to wind and set the time, I feel closer to my watch that way....

wear it every day , just put a hook in the wall to hang it and your car keys up together , pick ub both to go home , leave both on the hook to start the day , for hood insert , box, wallet , leather pouch , or whatever works for you.

I don't get why someone wouldn't wear a sub everyday. Its made to be worn everyday. Its not a rare PP. As for a watch winder the Rolex mvt. is pretty simple. IMO no need for a winder but its your watch and your $$$. I am glad no one gave the OP a hard time about calling it a "2011" Sub.
