Omega Seamaster GMT - Did I Buy the right Watch?

Hi,
Currently I own a TT Rolex Sub with a black face that was a present from my wife and have been on the lookout for a SS watch to wear while travelling (mainly overseas and other time zones)
I want a second watch as the TT Sub stands out as a beacon in Asia and other less than safe countries.
Today whilst in the city a major store was blowing out it's Omega stock at 40% off RRP one day only sale as they no will longer be a dealer and want to clear their stock. They had a black Seamaster 300m REFERENCE 212.30.41.20.01.002 that I loved (very classy) and a blue Seamaster GMT REFERENCE 2535.80.00 with the sapphire crystal back. Both watches were set the same price.
I know nothing about Omegas, but at the price these seemed to be bargains so I took the plunge without doing too much research, buying on impressions rather than hard research. Whilst I loved the Black Seamaster, the assistant pointed out that the GMT would be more useful and that the classic blue would differentiate it from my Rolex Sub. It was not at the time my first preference but hey, it’s a nice looking watch and was very comfortable.
So, based on this information I took the GMT as I didn’t mind the looks and the blue is different.
Now to my questions and if these seem dumb please forgive me.
I am really pleased with the watch, in fact I love it but I am wondering
1. if the movement is as good as the latest Seamaster 300m without the complications
2. Is the sapphire crystal back standard or the sign of an older watch
3. Are the GMT as respected as the other Seamasters for reliability, design and desirability
4. Did I get a good deal at paying the same RRP price as the Seamaster 300m and 40% off.
5. Is there a newer updated model planned?

I would like to say you have made the correct choice. I bought the same watch earlier this year and think it is a very good piece. It is a very understated piece and do not draw attention. I always find wrist time for my Omega GMT and having the extra hour hand is perfect for travelling. I love the sapphire transparet back also.

Sounds like a fine choice. Not sure I would have wanted a clear case back on this type of watch, but the watch itself is a hands-down winner.

The blue "James Bond" Seamasters are pretty popular.

Getting the one with the very well respected GMT 1128 movement is also a very good choice. You will never take another watch with you when travelling once you get hooked on the ease of change back and forth..

Whether you got the "right" watch or not is really up to you...............

1. if the movement is as good as the latest Seamaster 300m without the complications

Yes, it's the coaxial, so it's better

2. Is the sapphire crystal back standard or the sign of an older watch

The newer models have this.

3. Are the GMT as respected as the other Seamasters for reliability, design and desirability

Absolutely

4. Did I get a good deal at paying the same RRP price as the Seamaster 300m and 40% off.

Yes. 30% is an excellent deal and you did better than that.

5. Is there a newer updated model planned?

No, not yet.

Some of the upper end GMT-style watches have "jump" hour hands, as do the Rolex GMT Master II and the Rolex Explorer II.

I know that at least one of the Omega GMT-style watches has a "jump" hour hand, and I would hope the same for the Seamaster GMT.

In any event, for travelling, I have found this feature the single most desireable function of a watch (aside from consistent time-keeping) in that it allows one to quickly and easily change the hour hand without impacting the minute and second hands.

Additionally, on those GMT-style watches that rely on the hour hand to set the date, the "jump" hour function makes advancing the date to the first of the next month very easy.

So, I hope someone will tell me whether the watch in question has a "jump" hour hand.

The newer blue dial co ax version does not have a jump hour hand although the older 50 aniversary model with the black dial did have a jump hour. I have seen a reason why posted somewhere but i just can't remember where now.

The blue dial Seamaster 300 Coaxial GMT 2535.80.00 does indeed have the "JUMP" hour hand.

Must be getting old - totally mis quoted this comment from TZ:

''Minor point - GMT 2234.50 doesn't have a quick-set date. You have to turn the hour hand until the date is reached.''

Good luck with the search. I was lucky enough to find my Great White BNIB a few months ago, and from what my dealer has told me, they're becoming extremely hard to find. It's a watch to hold on to though!
