Awesome review of the DEEPSEA.....I bought one 2 days ago myself......Everything in your post speaks to my heart.....The writing was so well done..... You just have to see and hold one to experience the uniqueness of the DEEPSEA for sure. It is just a fantastic chronometer.

Well...got a Z-series today...and I believe that that main difference between the Z-series and the other series is that that Z-series is the only series WITHOUT lugholes. That makes it amazingly difficult to deal with, but since the Z-series was run in 2005 and discontinued in 2008, it is reputed to be the smallest 'run' of mainstream SD's around (exclusive of the COMEX, the Red's, and the "Triple 6's").
As we all know, it was replaced by the DSSD...and the rest is history... Great write-up, wish the originator at Ginault was referenced, but I appreciate the information.... |

I'm new to the forum, but have one as well, these posts are making me second guess about trading for a Sub-C.

Great review, love the macro shots. I got a Z serial last week and am loving it. Would have been nice to get an M (the last 16600), but those are hard to come by. Long live the SD!

The OP's, or Ginault's review was the start of my Sea-Dweller 16600 fever years ago resulting in a V242XXX serial, BNIB, tis month (Feb. 2013).
I have read that the V serials have the smallest production numbers, but do not know how accurate this is. |

Great review and welcome to the fraternity. I hear you on the cyclops. In 1985, I traded up from a Submariner to an SD simply because I could not stand the little "bump" on the crystal face. Finally placed the SD in storage after 27 years to make way for a Deep Sea.
BTW, I am a Materials Engineer and although the sapphire crystals are tough and very scratch resistant, they are not close to being "shatter proof." A drop onto a tile floor from waist high is easily sufficient to break one. I also learned the hard way that the sapphire crystals don't play well with weld splatter. |
