advice on my first rolex purchase GMT!

I have my heart set on a GMT master as my first Rolex. Found one at a local, legitimate dealer, it is an "F" serial 16710 with box and papers, in what appears to be excellent condition, with the Pepsi bezel. I was able to talk them down to a cash price out the door $4,500.

Is that a fair price for this vintage watch?

I found some others around 4,800-5,000 in similar condition, but without the box or papers, which is why I am drawn to this one!

Anyways, I'd like to pick it up if it gets the ok from the experts here!

Let me know!

F is not really vintage, it could be 2003-2005.
If plastic box, then 2005.
Price is fair for a brick-and-mortar store, especially if its your first watch, and you gonna keep it for a while.

I agree w/ Bill.

The classic GMT [16710] had a preloved selling price of $3500.00 when the GMT IIc was released some 5 years ago. Many were selling the old to fund the new. Then, many found the classic GMT to be of more interest because of the bezel options as well as other attributes and the price has continued to increase.

Interesting... i do realize an "F" production is still too new to be considered "vintage" however I do plan on holding onto it for a long time, so immediate resale isnt a big concern at the moment. Just wanted to be sure I wasnt grossly overpaying.

Seems like a fair price. Recently dealers have been asking in the mid to high $4K range on the forums (sometimes even higher) for similar age GMTs.

The nice thing about a (reputable) local store is that you can inspect the watch first and there is no shipping risk. I made a similar decision to buy local and pay the sales tax rather than buying on the internet for the same price.

See if you can get them to back it with 1 year of free service, just in case.

if you want a couple of serials older they can be had for 3.5-4k, easily

but in short you wont be overpaying for your F

Update:

So I took the plunge, and bought the watch this afternoon. Very happy with a like new F serial 16710 Pepsi GMT, with the box and original papers including the US rolex warranty sheet showing the watch was originally purchased in 2006.

Thank you all for the welcome, and the encouragement to go forward with the purchase!

One thing I noticed is the older GMT's have numbers stamped on the link of the bracelet which attaches to the watch case, and the more recent models (mine included) do not have the stamp. Is that standard and around when did Rolex begin to Omit those stamps?

Heres a quick photo of the new addition, (excuse the quality and the fingerprint! , only an old P&S on hand at the moment, the DSLR is MIA)

I think it sounds good..

The price is fair, complete with box & papers and most of all you are "drawn to this one".
I say go for it! Great choice for your first Rolex!!
