16800 Sub Value
I have an opportunity to purchase an all original 1983 16800 matte dial on a 93100 bracelet for around $4600US otd. Looks like it has had a mild polish sometime in its life. A few light scratches but nothing that really stands out.
Is the value there at this price or is there a better value at this price point on another model with a matte dial?

In my own opinion $4600 is a good price for said model.

I received some more pics and now I know why it was so cheap. Excessive wear to inside tips of the lugs. Not worth it, moving on.
The hunt for a nice matte dial 16800 under 5 grand continues.

You will be hard pressed to find a nice 16800 matte for under $5,000 USD.

I've seen two like that recently (either that or the same one twice). The inside of the lug tips looked like someone had hit them with a grinder.

a matte 16800 is the best deal going in vintage rolex, imo. ive noticed a definite tick up in prices recently. there seems to be a lot more posts on these watches as well. this watch wear so nicely. i love the high beat movement and the tank like feel of it. it really is the perfect blend of vintage and modern and it is truly a transitional watch.

I've noticed an uptick as well and I have a late serial matte dial 16800 which I love but have been flirting with the idea of trading in on the bump. Had it for about a year or year and a half

I've seen quite a few under 5 grand. Usually with issues. It's the ones with case issues that I'm avoiding. And thanks for teasing me with those pics guys ; )

Very nice examples shown! It's been a while since I've seen a nice matte 16800 for under 5K.

All correct and not service parts/lowest without box and papers and highest with...pre indices 9.5k to 10.5/// Late 16800 with white indices(Also the rare transition when the formula for the dial wasnt correct and caused spider/star dial and matte 8k to 9k... Time to buy prices will keep rising for these...

5 grand doesn't seem to be a realistic budget for a decent example. Throw in some more cash!

This thread goes to show how quickly prices can be affected in a relatively short timescale. And today you would seriously struggle to pick up a nice matte dial 16800, for less than 5K sterling anywhere in the uk . Prices seem to be around 6.5k up to about 11k for full set top condition examples currently . These are great watches that can still be worn everyday , bought mine earlier this year & couldn't be happier
