Before/After Pictures after LAWW Case Refinish

Hi everyone,

I'm considering sending my 5513 to LAWW to refinish its case. (My 5513 was already overpolished when I bought it.) Specifically, I'm interested in LAWW's vintage refinish service. Has anyone tried this service on their Sub?

I wonder how big the difference is before and after this service. If you have before and after pictures of this service, I would appreciate it if you could post these here.

Many thanks in advance.

I figured this post would be more fun, if I post pictures of my 5513.

I think the lugs can use vintage refinish to get their bevels back:

This is a restoration done by ABC Watchwerks, but it is before they split into ABC and LAWW. The guys doing the restorations at LAWW worked at ABC at the time........BTW, this is BY FAR my prized possession......even above my 116619 WG Sub

AFTER

(Sides left unpolished by my request)

I just got my 5513 from LAWW a couple of weeks ago.
The watch has already been slightly polished before, but I just wanted it done correctly.

Couldn't be happier with the results!

There is plenty of debate about whether to re-cut lugs and/or polish the entire case on these vintage Subs ..... but if you are going to do it, the guys at LAWW and ABC do it the best, IMHO. I've used them on watches before and after their split and I'm always impressed. Good luck!

Jason, what lead to your decision to leave the sides untouched? Just curious, especially since you had the chambers were redone. Lovely watch, regardless!

On advice of some of the veterans around here, and due to the fact that once the case sides were polished, it couldn't be undone. It was debated here on this sub-forum for sure. The only reason the chamfers were re-cut is due to the fact that the inner aspect of the lugs had to be laser-welded, and the tops of the lugs had to be polished and re-brushed. The inner lug holes had been worn into an oval shape because the previous owner used ill-fitting lug bars. I wanted to leave the watch as original as possible. To me, it is the perfect meld of unpolished/newly polished or brushed surfaces.

If I had to do it over again, I would absolutely do things EXACTLY the way that they were done. I couldn't be happier with how this one turned-out. Like I said.......my Pride and Joy

Jason, that thing is drop dead SEXY!

You totally did the right thing under the circumstances. I admire your restraint to not make it "new" again. Every scratch tells a story...

Thanks everyone.......I love this watch SO MUCH. It would be the last one standing. I would sell ALL of my others first......Including my WG Sub and my WG Daytona.

those as-is case sides are pretty nice: I'm always having them brushed to get rid of the shiny.

It will stay in my collection. All of my watches have an unwritten rating from 1-25. My first to go would be either a TOG or possibly a matte dial 16800 (number 24 & 25). The last to be sold would be my restored 1665 and then my 116619 WG Sub (number 1 & 2). This one falls in the top 10 of my "keep" watches, so there would be around 15-20 watches that would go on the chopping block before this on.

So......the short answer?? It is not likely to be sold.

I did that years ago to my LV as well. Love it. Very historical.
