To refinish the dial or not to refinish the dial

I have this 3133 bubbleback that I've had for a while but recently decided to sell it or trade it. I've had several people interested but they always back out after agreeing on a price or trade. (Generally they just go silent)

I know the dial isn't great but personally I like it,and the case back has some pitting all be it it looks a lot worse in the photos than in person.

The pitting would be pretty easy to fix myself but I'm toying with the idea of getting the dial refinished. This is not something I would normally do as I think them original and it's taken year for it to get like this but I just don't wear it anymore so it needs to go.

What are peoples ideas on getting dials refinished? Good idea or bad idea?

Thanks,

Chris

I say seek out a replacement dial ...

Hi Chris,

I've clocked* up twenty years in this hobby now and I'm seeing the original vintage spares rapidly diminishing. So, I say it's a shame nowadays if any of the surviving vintage dials get refinished.

Bubble back dials can be sourced, and they don't command the crazy prices that we see for sports dials. A simple WTB here on VRF might yield something for you.

Worth a try I say and remember that your existing may also have appeal to someone else for their project .

* Hope you noticed the horological pun too !

Maybe pick up a nice refinished dial to make the watch nice for resale but include the original dial in the deal if the buyer ever wants to return it to original.
