D sw
Just another reason DSW stands above the rest, imo; no, not an incoming thread (yet, lol)
But if anyone has the same sickness I do and cruises the for sale section almost daily, you will notice many sellers will post a separate thread that their watch "sold" or at least will also state it at the bottom of their initial thread. Maybe I have missed it, but I have never seen a "sold" thread from DSW and I think I like that about him. Just thought it was worth mentioning. |

i might have misunderstood but what's the problem with informing that the watch is sold? it saves your time/disappointment as well as the seller's time by informing you before you contact him

hmmmm, I too am not sure where the problem is.
I would prefer to know that something has been sold, if in fact it is not longer available.

I can't say it bothers me enough that I noticed which dealers do and don't do it but along those lines I do agree. I prefer when they post at the end of the original thread that the watch has been sold instead of creating a new thread to say a watch from the other thread is sold. Because then you're trying to match up sale threads with sold threads; which are not always right next to each other. But since I'm just there to look anyway it's never caused me any real heartache.

I'm not sure how it's better to not tell people the watch has been sold. I think it's a better business practice to close out the thread with a sold notice.
If a seller never takes the time, or has the courtesy to close out the sale thread, that would be more of a ding than a plus in my book. |

Edit: I looked at three DSW ads from page 310 (circa March 2016) of the for sale section. The last post is "Lets get this sold" on all three. I didn't see an ad noticing a sale of these. How does the forum enforce the rule? It seems it would be beyond excessive to ask mods to track this. Is it an honor system for the sellers? |

It actually annoys me, when a seller doesn't take the courtesy to mark it as sold....

x3. Why do they create a new thread, instead of just replying to the original for sale thread???

I just think he doesn't have the time. It would take him 25 hours a day just to type sold on all of his sale threads!! LOL.

You should go to his website to see his current items.. not rely on trf threads.

Some sellers mark as “sold”, some don’t.
I do mark as “sold” as a courtesy to potential clients searching for a watch so as to not waste their time… also my time as well, fielding questions about an item that is already sold. |

I have contacted DSW on watches only to find out they were sold. It would be nice if he closed them out. It's not a big deal but disappointing when you are told it is gone. A minor issue to be sure.

They don't disclose it as sold for the simple reason... It makes you contact them. If nothing more it's another email contact in the address book.
And... "Hi I'm interested in watch" XXX. "-It's sold unfortunately, but I'll have another one just like it coming next week". Very simple. I wouldn't say it's "cool".

I agree it's poor form. I have noticed as well. He's not alone in this though. Many sellers do the same. Some even have stuff listed on their website as available when it's not.

Don't see why this would make DSW better. I sell on here and I'm going to post sold once i get it sold. Don't think that makes me any less of a seller/buyer/trader. Actually I'm usually under the price of the known guys as its hard to complete with them when i keep my prices close to theres. With my track record on here I'm believe I'm a pretty trustworthy guy. So you actually maybe going to get a deal buying from me. But again don't see why not notifying the forums that something is no longer available would be a plus?

Actually if you show interest in a watch they could source another one and get two sales from the same ad.

Never had a problem. If I want a watch, he usually has it or can get it quickly. However, I do see the technicality of the rules. Take a picture of the actual watch being sold, etc.

Hes a great seller for sure no doubt behind that. He can get you whatever you want and you know you'll be getting what you paid for even though i have noticed his prices increasing.

Closing out listings would have an unintended counter-productive influence on the for sale section - as consumers, would we really want to see watches marked as "sold" constantly at the top of the section?? This is what would happen if every watch sold as a result of being listed on TRF were required to be marked as such. Eventually "stale" watches work their way to the back pages of the listings, with new or active listings bumped to the top as allowed. Does anyone really go 18 pages deep in the classifieds anyways? Naturally (and as it stands) the newest and most active listings appear at the top, so why change what is already working?
As an aside, this thread does a disservice to the seller in the title - he is not alone in the practice of not closing out listings. |
