Setting the time: Minute hand forward or backward to set?
Hi,
When setting your watch, after getting the second hand stopped at 12:00, do you move the minute hand back to the correct time before starting, or do you move it forward to the correct time, before pushing in the crown? I've found I get better results backing up the minute hand, then letting it go. When I go the other way, it seems slow. Anyone else have a preference? Thanks! |

I think the best way to set it is to go past where you want it, then back up to where you want it. This works for me. Fellow TRF'ers?

Go past in what direction? Forward or backward? I.E., if you want to set the minute hand to 6, do you go to 7 then back up to 6? Or, go to 5 and move forward to 6?

In your example, I'd go FORWARD to at least 8, then go back to 6.

Agreed......doing this means that the gears that drive the hands clockwise are all in contact on the correct side of the teeth, so essentially as soon as you push in the crown the 'drive' starts, I have noticed on newer movements or ones which have just been serviced you have to take the minute hand back another half a second/minute marker then it kind of eases forward when you let go of the crown prior to pushing it in and starting the watch again.......just something I noticed....but yes, back it up to where you want it, don't take it forward....
