RSC - are there better ones?

I have just bought my first Rolex, a 16570 Polar D-series. I intend to send it off to Rolex for its first service under my care soon.

Is there any reason I should "shop around" or choose a specific Rolex Service Center for this? Or are they all pretty much the same and just go through the closest AD near me?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, like I said I've gone from a Seiko SARB to this, so I have no idea. Thanks!

RSC Dallas might be a good spot especially since you bought it 2nd hand. You will get a warranty card which would be papers if you ever wanted to sell.

congrats on the watch!

i don't believe theres a difference with RCS's but from experience, i'd take the watch to an AD and have them facilitate it for you.

by doing so, you intro yourself to an AD and have an added layer of insurance having them intake the watch; if it gets lost by the courier, its the AD's job to be your rep.

i've hand delivered and AD processed many rolex RSC services and i believe the AD route is best --- and it's the same price.

The only problem with this is you lose the direct communication with the service center, which sometimes can be important.

I like both Dallas and NY. I called Dallas to get more info and updates and they always answered my questions/concerns professionally when they serviced my Explorer I under warranty. I did not call NY RSC because it was a quick job while I waited there.

There are lots of mixed reviews for the NY RSC. Dallas seems to be pretty good and has a fairly high rating. I've sent 4 watches there for service. Still waiting for them to send my Smurf back, so we'll have to wait and see for that one. The best part about sending it to a RSC is that they check the history (to see if it's been reported stolen) and you get a RSC warranty card. If buying preowned, I would pay more for a watch that was serviced by RSC than an independent because of that check.

Sorry for digging up an old thread, but, I had my Sub C, sent to Dallas back in early October. To make a long story short, I smashed my crystal. They asked for authorization, to replace the face and hands, last month, due to scratches. 1.) $1,478.00 seems extremely steep 2.) I'm still waiting for its return. Is this ordinary for Dallas, or any RSC, for that matter? We're coming up on 9 weeks, and they're ( my AD) telling me mid January! That seems like an extremely long time to fix a watch.

In theory they should all be the same as they will have all the same tooling but like anything with using tools they are only as good as the person using them. And to service a Rolex is not a lot of difference to servicing a Seiko to any good watchmaker, main problem Rolex have such a strangle hold on parts if needed.

My experience with RSCs in different parts of the world, including NYC and Dallas, has always been excellent. And it's been many years, many watches.

Isn't there a small RSC in Florida?

I'm not sure I'd agree with that. Even going back many many years, people have reported more issues with RSC NY than with RSC Dallas. I strictly prefer Giovanni's affiliated service center in SF, though LAWW would get my money over any RUSA option.

That is absolutely not true in general. Many ADs increase the cost of service to generate money for themselves.

When you smash the crystal, they need to do a full movement service (about $700 plus parts last I checked). Add on a new crystal for something like $100, a new dial for... who knows...$300, and some new hands. I don't think $1,500 sounds too totally unreasonable. Even so, they should have given you an itemized break down of costs.

The turnaround time seems slow, but it's Christmas time.

I haven't used it, in its current incarnation. The old Beverly Hills location (which closed, and I guess has maybe reopened) used to be fine. However, of the three (NY, Dallas, and BH), Dallas has had the best reputation for as long as I've been on the forums (since ~2000). I prefer the SF affiliate to all three though.

Dallas RWSC. None better, the ONLY place to send a Rolex for any service. Based on 50 + years experience with them.

You just mail them the watch directly or go through the AD?

What's the turnaround for a movement adjustment/regulation and nothing else?

Either. If you mail it in, the RSC will talk to you. If you get an AD to do it, everything has to go through them. The AD might charge more than the RSC bill as well.

Beverly Hills is open. I think they had closed for remodeling or something for a period of time. There is some limit to their capacity, but I can't recall the specifics. Either they don't accept watches from ADs or you can't ship a watch to them - it must be brought in. Something like that. Maybe someone will know the specifics.

One of my buddy's had a third friend hand deliver a watch to BH, so you could be right about them needing to come in through the door.

Thanks. Better off if I take it myself. Their hours are not ideal though. 9a-5p M-F in Beverly Hills.

A friend who recently serviced his first rolex went with Vanessa at Jewelers on time. Shes well known on the forums and did a very nice job, complete with picture updates. Turn around time was a few weeks and the price was decent.
