Best place to sell a rolex

Good evening;
I am new to this forum but my late husband came here often. I am looking at possibly selling his rolexes but I need to know where the best place to sell them are (AD, this forum or ???) Any help, would be appreciated.

Thanks, Susy-Q

Welcome to TRF!

I'm sorry to hear of your husband.

When you have enough posts and days on this forum, you will be able to post at the classifieds section. Take pictures of the watches as well as the boxes, papers, and anything else the watches cames with for best results.

Good luck.

Private sell in Canada would work, you can try an AD or jeweler over there but the offers will not be as good as from a private party sell. Here you can sell too, but it is going to be easier if you have references and posts, there could be some members from Canada that could be interested in a face to face deal, and if they provide good feedback in the who's who section that would help you sell to other members not from your Country.
Good luck.

I'm sorry to read about your husband. Was he an active member? Do you know what his username was?

Good luck on the selling of his time pieces.

Welcome to TRF. Sorry about your husband. This is definitely one of the best place to sell your rolexes. Post some pics and you'll be surprised how fast they can go. Good luck!

I am sorry to hear of your husband. I don't know you so I may sound out of place. I am sorry if this sounds that way. Unless you need the money maybe you might want to wait a bit and think if the watches may be missed by you or other family at a later date?

I have an older two tone Rolex which belonged to my grandfather who passed in 1998. At times I feel close to him by wearing the watch. If you don't feel like that just get several opinions on what the Rolex watches are really worth. Resale is difficult because you could get close to M.S.R.P.(if you are lucky) to as bad as several thousand dollars less than retail. Key point don't give them away. if you have to wait until the deal/money you want comes around so be it. Some dealers will sell your Rolex watches on consignment. Be careful the dealer is honest and I would have the watches insured against theft, loss, ect in the event they get stolen or lost in the process. Good luck to you. Once again sorry for your loss.

Sorry for your loss, I am sure if you knew his screen name, perhaps he already has pictures and history of the watch on this forum and could save you some time and headache during your trying time.

perhaps you would like to hold on to them for sentimental value?

You might want to consider that selling to US buyers potentially has some pitfalls. There are some US customs issues if importing a Rolex into the US. Buying from and or returning one to a US seller is not an issue but selling/shipping one from Canada to the US could see your watch seized by US customs , other countries also have same poiicy.

I'm pretty new here myself, but have spent many, many hours reading various posts, classifieds, etc and from comparing this forum to other sales options, I have to think that TRF is your best choice. The feedback is always very good and informational. Sorry to hear of your loss.

Thank you all for your great advice. My husband was an active member in this forum and I believe his nickname was rolexguy in BC Canada. He actually attended a few get togethers in Vancouver.

I'm sure someone here knows him. Were you able to situate your watches? We've been wondering if you found the best avenue to sell the watches. I'd like to see some pictures of his collection. Thanks for keeping us updated. There are plenty of people to give you the best, and safest ideas for you. Have a good one!

Try to photograph the watch in natural light. Maybe with light from a window. Don't use a flash; turn off the flash.

Once you have the requisite amount of time and posts on the forum then simply start a separate thread in the "for sale" section of the classifieds for each watch you wish to sell. You will need to show a selling price and several photo's of the watch listed. Make sure you have your private messaging system set up so buyers can contact you. Then, sit back with a cold soda and a lg pizza.

Hello Suys-Q .. and welcome..
Sorry to hear of the loss of your husband. Never an easy thing to deal with, especially when it comes to clearing out his personal effects. That's when its most difficult.
Those few pics of the watch is a good start. More pics of different angles of the watches themself is better, but what is great, is that you have all the original (it appears) boxes and documents. That carries weight when it comes to sell the watch(es). Also shows, imo, that the owner Cared enough about the watches to retain original packaging etal.
When the time comes, I'm sure you'll be able to sell these to someone who can appreciate them.

Welcome - but so sorry to hear of your loss...

I've been looking around at places to sell watches also (I'm new here) and this looks to be about the best around...

The knowledge base here is incredible - and from what I can see... so is the kindness...

Wishing you all the very best...

I know he bought the air king in 2004 and the Explorer in 2007/2008, how do I find out how old they are? I cannot seem to find it on the paperwork or I am just missing it. Thanks for your help.

The serial # may be listed in the paperwork, which would indicate the year of mfgr. The model #is 114270..on the Explorer Qarantie paperwork. Similarly with the other watch.
