So, you thinking about flipping your watch?
We often get bored with our toys and want to mix it up. We flip a watch and repeat our adventure. I have a few steps that I took to advert this disaster in my humble opinion.
1. Put your watch away, out of sight. Don't look at it! 2. Spend time on the forums. a. Pay special attention to the watches you are lusting after. b. Pay equally special attention to the watch you put away. 3. Repeat for 2-4 weeks all while looking for deals on either watch. Do NOT buy!!! 4. Visit watch shops. Try on all kinds except the one you put away. If they have that one, don't even look at it. 5. How do you feel now? You want to put your old watch back on? I did this b/c I almost flipped my 116710ln. Long story short, it would have been a massive mistake for me. I put it away to see if I'd miss it.*Hit all the forums, lusting after the ones I thought I wanted and needed. I also, just out if morbid curiosity, always looked at posts with the IIc in it. Man, it photographs well!!! Looking at all the f/s sections made me wonder why so many wanted my watch. I began to wonder myself. I tried on many watches in the mean time, but I never got as excited as I remember being when I got my IIc. The ones I wanted were nice, but how nice. I remembered again how I felt that day I got my watch. So, how do I feel now? Relieved and happy. Do I want to put my old watch back on? Hell yeah! Why did I ever want to take it off is the question now? Can you believe I almost sold this? Like the saying goes. You don't miss it until it is gone. So make it gone for a bit. Chances are, you'll want what you had back. I mean you really wanted it one time.....right?

Have to agree with you, buddy.
I've flipped quite a few Rolex watches over the last 29 years.......but the one that keeps calling out to me again and again and again would have to be this one.........flipped 3 of them for "bad luck" reasons, but I still love and miss it!!

Agreed, honestly...the JJ not having Bluesy deal just doesn't work for me. Don't get me wrong, I like his current collection but I associate JJ with the TT Blue Sub. Him not having one just doesn't seem right.

Thanks, Allen. If I could have a dollar for the number of times I've been told this, I'd probably be able to pick up a brand new Bluesy!!

This is the problem...or more precisely, just plain boredom. Then we try to use some thing to spark our interest again and it becomes a never ending cycle. This problem reminds me of a lot of photo hobbyists who constantly swap out cameras hoping to find the one that will take the great pictures for them instead of just learning the art of photography.

I had a similar feeling towards the LV earlier last year. I just didnt fancy it, and didnt want to flip it either, so I let it stay in the watch box not touching and tried not looking at it for many months until the love comes back. It worked for me.

I have a better solution...
Wear your watch and stay out of the AD and off of the forum. |

Great thread and good idea. I was thinking about flipping my 116200, but before I do that I think I will put it away and re-think it. Very timely thread for me!

Great post, mfer! I had a similar experience when I got my 16610 a few months ago. I had actually started to tire a bit of my GMT IIc. It was getting scuffed up a bit on the bracelet and showing the effects of nearly two years of daily wear. I found myself comparing it to other watches and lusting after those.
When I got the Sub, I put the IIc away for a couple of months. Like you said, my interest in it was renewed and I find myself now admiring all its good qualities all over again. It is a beauty and definitely a keeper. It'll always be my first Rolex. |

For fun I copied the text and changed the word watch to woman.
Does this make sense to anyone? Hope I´m not offending anyone 1. Put your woman away, out of sight. Don't look at her! 2. Spend time on the forums. a. Pay special attention to the women you are lusting after. b. Pay equally special attention to the woman you put away. 3. Repeat for 2-4 weeks. Do NOT buy!!! 4. Visit bars. Try on all kinds except the one you put away. If they have that one, don't even look at it. 5. How do you feel now? You want to put your old woman back on? I did this b/c I almost flipped my woman Long story short, it would have been a massive mistake for me. |

I'm of the catch and release mindset. Make what you have in it, or a little more if it's a good day, and move on. Some people keep everything! I wear it for a while, and move on.

Last year (October) i purchased a new LV sub at my local Rolex AD. They made me an offer to trade in my 5513 sub which I had been wearing since 1978. I decided to keep it and I still purchased the LV. I am so glad I decided to keep my trusty old 5513. I love my LV, but after months of wearing it, and reading TRF, I realized I missed my old sub. Now I wear it Every Friday! I guess my point is that even after wearing the watch so long, I still appreciate the beauty of it and am so glad that I did not trade it in.

Hey Mik!
Glad to hear you are keeping the IIc!! From the beginning of my watch collecting I will always remember someone who said a good watch is one that looks & feels great after you haven't worn it for a while. Believe me, I've had rash thoughts of selling my SUB Date for something else, maybe even the IIc. Then my rational side kicks in and realized I bought this watch on my honeymoon. Hell, that's a story my kid (once I have one) will love to talk about when he/she gets it.
