Fascinating. I refuse to believe anybody buys at these prices for anything but speculation.

Patek has paved the way with 5x price ratios, then AP. Now it is Rolex’s turn.

Is anyone buying at $50k+?

Message me I have 2 to sell - or maybe wait until $60k? hahaha

I know 10000% the grey dealers are not paying anywhere NEAR these prices because I just asked 3 of them if they will buy mine for this price. LOL

Feels like the 116500 is on the cusp of a big price surge.

In fact it has already started but when the stock disappears from the Greys all at the same time it's like the tide rolling out before a tsunami

So why would you sell an appreciating asset for one that depreciates the minute it rolls off the dealer lot?

These are the same comments on outrage we had on TRF when the Panda hit $25k. I am still pissed I didn’t buy mine then. Then other watches like the ss 5711 went over $100k.

Because people are paying them?
Why make it that hard for yourself?

There could further underlying reasons. This seems like a pretty decent trend upwards in a short amount of time.

Driving a Porsche will make you want to wear a Daytona at every shift and every turn…

Better have something/anything tangible then ones and zeros on your screen that can be produced in unlimited quantities out of thin air with a keystroke.
Only a true idiot would put any value into that.....

I feel the recent increase in OP prices, particularly the ones in turquoise have contributed slightly to this? Some people were even offered a straight trade for a Daytona. Not surprising if people decide to take the offer and lower the available supply for a Daytona.

That’s the thing, you can’t really do that much with the money if you sell. So all the appreciation effectively gives you is the bragging rights of looking as if you paid top dollar for a watch when you didn’t.

I collect air cooled 911’s for the last few decades way before the madness. I actually sold one of mine this summer just because the market is stupid right now.

You Sir have figured it out.

What am I going to do with a pile of worthless paper if there is nothing I desire that I can buy with it?
Better then to hold on to what I have

You think it is stupid now,I think this is just the beginning.
But like with Rolex time will tell.

On a sidenote I sold a 1977 RUF 911 Turbo in the early 90s for approx USD25K and though I was paid well...

I know. I club raced 930’s back in the day when they were a $38k vehicle. I see a lot of similarities to the early 911’s and the Daytona now and the attitudes in their street prices. No one had any idea how far they would take off. I buy/own what I love so I like cars and watches so these are a lifestyle for enjoyment. I would do this regardless what they will be worth.

Never let go of the gas in a hard turn...learned that the hard way

You Sir also have it figured out. Buy what you like with money you could care less about.
If it becomes worthless, who cares you had fun and enjoyed it.
If it goes to the moon, who cares Its not for sale and when I am dead I could care less anyway.
And I know for sure that my cash will only go one way on the value ladder...

$46k according to Chrono24, but we’ll on it’s way to $50k yes. I think it will hit $60k by EOY.

The Rolex Daytona cost $14550 and if you're not going to flip it the price doesn't matter.

I dont want to sound like a dick but...
If you had bought one from a Gray 7yrs ago, what would you have paid then?
Plus the value of having what you want during that timeframe

Not when compared to RM … crazy plastic watches selling for $600k-$2.8M

Seven years ago, it would have been a 116520 (steel bezel), so different watch.

If he's been on the waitlist 7yrs obviously thats what he wanted (back then at least)
What was the premium on a 520 back then vs now?

It’s somewhat tempting to trade a white dialed 116500 for a WG GMT.

520s never had much of a premium. i believe they only even had a premium for a few years and it wasn't more than 20%. the 500 changed that for daytonas, once that came out all the others went up slowly
