Can you over wound a manual watch.

Hi all,

I recently bought a 233 K series. This is my first manual wound watch.

I was wondering if the 233 have a safety mechanism so you cannot over wound it?

Do you wind it until it make a click sound?

Thanks in advance.

I don't believe you can overwind a Pam. My 111 clicks like yours when it is fully wound..

I have the 000 and 233. The 000 winds to a "hard stop" meaning you can feel it comes to the end and continuous winding will do some damage. On the 233, I have noticed there appears to be some type of clutch that will slip when you overwind. So I believe you can continue to wind (unlike the 000) but it will just be slipping on the clutch.

This is my experience, but be careful.

Bryan is 100% correct. Most manuals come to a complete stop as the mainspring is physically attached to the barrel. All 6497 movements are like this (0,5,111,112,etc). The 233 movement has a clutch mechanism much like automatic movements. That clicking you are hearing is when the mainspring is fully wound and slips a little to prevent overwinding.

yup when the winding becomes tight, don't wind it any further.

the P2002 and new P3000 movement should come with the clutch mechanism to prevent overwinding.
