1/4 sweep or 1/8th?

As long as I can remember people would talk about being able to spot a fake Rolex because they ticked where as a Real one has a 1/4 sweep.

Obviously there are many other ways to distinguish authentic from fake but my question is, does the Rolex movement actually have a 1/4 sweep, meaning 4 quick movements per second or is it actually more like an 1/8th sweep or 8 movements per second?

I've been watching my second hand for a few minutes and I find it hard to believe that it is moving less then 8 times each second

Thoughts?
