New JLC Geophysic

What are your thoughts?

I think I like the stainless.

Nice size, not sure about the coloured hands. It looks quite understated to me, elegant yet simple.

I'm a huge fan of these, especially the platinum version with blue strap

Looks great!
I like the 100meter water resistance too!

However, imho, Priced on the high side from a resale point of view.

Seems the platinum is more true to the original, but the SS looks more balanced and desirable to me.

I like all 3 variations. A friend of mine said it is much more harmonious in person than it is in photos, regarding the color of the aged lume hands. I think they did a nice job recreating this piece with the anti-magnetic and water resistance. Makes for a handsome daily wearer, and a nice tribute to the original model.

Too bad they are auto. The original was a manual wind and it was JLC first attempt to make a chronometer. In the look department they did a good job though.

I guess making it manual would have substantially added to the cost. I'm not too sure on the lume, I have an aversion to fake patina.

At $10K for the SS version, they could have easily added a manual movement. I'm no fan of piss-lume either, but I love sword hands.

I usually love all things JLC but not a fan of these colored hands, which are also too tapered at the stem. would prefer another hand combination or a thicker taper. JMHO

They are much better on the wrist:

(This is the platinum version -- note the subtle texture to the dial...)

Still, the rose gold "crosshair" dial is my favorite:

I would. It's good for 100M, after all.

For me it would be getting the strap wet. I wonder how it would look on mesh

Actually, I wouldn't mind seeing one on a NATO...

Not a big fan of the lume.
Id prefer if it started off white and was allowed to age gracefully.

Personally I think JLC is riding the retro-train a bit too hard.

It smacks of Richemont influence to me, though I think they (JLC) do the fake vintage better than anyone else.

Richemont has been pushing fake patina on JLC, IWC, Panerai galore. I agree, JLC does it better than most but how many retro pieces does the market need? It is becoming like Panerai's special editions... At least they are letting ALS and VC focus on what they do best, and they are investing big time in Montblanc.

I really like all of these models with an edge going to the SS model. The lume color is not a problem for me. The cost for a simple three handed watch seems high however.

More fake patina?

And I understand the "geophysic" dial text, but I don't think I'd want it on a new $10k watch (or the much more expensive precious metal options).

The original Geophysic was only produced in a couple of thousand watches, far from being an icon, but I guess something of a cult watch these days. There really was no need for this watch, the fans would want the original, I don't see who JLC would attract with this one. A similar watch would be the Rolex Explorer, but that one has a real legacy, it does not need fake patina or a limited edition run.

Pretty, but the artificially antiqued lume makes them a no-go
