Men's Nautilus owners, what do you think of the bracelet flip lock clasp?

I'm new to PP. I'm looking at the beautiful 5711 as my next target. However, I feel that the bracelet's smallish flip lock metal clasp with the engraved Geneva logo does not look as impressive as the rest of the watch. I do appreciate the bracelet's overall slimness that can make the whole watch comfortable to be worn.

My initial thought was that PP wants the watch and bracelet/buckle style to be retained as original as possible to uphold the Nautilus design tradition. But when I visited the AD with my wife the other day, we saw the Ladies' Nautilus has a nicer buckle design that is without the flip lock metal clasp. It's sturdier and looks like an improved version over the 5711 bracelet buckle. This design is more similar to my Aquanaut 5167 (rubber) fat buckle which is just so lovely and comfortable.

What do you all think? Can we expect a new bracelet buckle for 5711 in the near future? I took some pics from google for comparison.

I like it as is. It's very seamless and comfortable. Low profile.

Glad I reread your original post. I was about to say what you're looking for reminds me very much of whats on my 5167A! Ha-

I know often brands will have a bracelet/strap on normal models, then on sports/dive models add the fold-over clasp ontop of a regular snap/tension type to add an extra step of protection so that the watch doesn't come off if the buckle was hit or stretch the wrong way. Sounds more like marketing sometimes but there were cases that i had some how managed to pop open a regular deployant randomly (and instantly noticed) that I believe may have been prevented if a fold-over clasp had to be undone first. Just my 2cents

I own one all bracelet Nautilis. I love the watch. however, It is a bit of a challenge to open the clasp. AP just recently updated their all bracelet clasp on their ROO 42 gold and I think it came out great in the sense that it is now much easier to open it.

The flip lock clasp does look similar to my 15 year old Tag Heuer Kirium where I have to use my fingernail to unclasp. My wish is that the area circled in blue can be at least concealed.

Think that's just me, I'm probably OCD. But just a small thing. I still love the classic 5711 as much. Haha

In a time where watches seem to be getting bigger and bulkier, I appreciate the low profile and streamlined clasp of my Nautilus 5711

I made a video where I compare the clasp of the 5711 against a Rolex Daytona

Thanks for sharing your video review of the 5711. The buckle is nice and very slim when compared with the one on the Daytona.

Nautilus 5711 in gold is going to be stunning.

Not a big fan of Nautilus bracelet. The watch is amazing and I like it very much but I really prefer steel Rolex bracelet.

I think it compliments the watch perfectly, very comfortable and functional.

Not a Nautilus owner, but had a chance to try on a 5711, 5712 and 5726. I always felt the bracelet to be a bit too thin for a sports watch, but then I've inspected the watch as a whole, and realized the thin bracelet and thin clasp perfectly suits the elegantly thin watch head. The whole package is very well thought out, and the bracelet is "fluid" this way. And Patek watches aren't about the bracelets and straps anyway: it's all about the heart of the watch, the fantastic movements.

The clasp should be constructed of carbon fiber and released as a special edition. Oops, sorry, just looking at the Audemars forum.

In practice, the clasp seems well engineered. After wearing it all the time, it becomes intuitive to use. And it fits the watch well-very streamlined. I don't look for bulk as a measure of safety. It is probably a very narrow margin of failure between a Nautilus clasp and a Daytona clasp- a major accident will destroy both, a minor one won't impact either one, and somewhere in between will probably never happen...

Well engineered and ideally fit for the Nautilus bracelet design, for me personally though tough to open (at least on the 57XX I tried a week ago).

Regardless, and as much as the tropical/composite and leather strap versions are great, the Nautilus on bracelet is on a league of its own.

Hopefully shall be ordering the watch from my local AD this week (either securing the next incoming 5711 or order a complicated 57XX). Not likely to avoid the upcoming price increase, though, which is a pity (been 1 1/2 year since PP had a price increase and I just decided to get one, so it may be too late, who knows...)

I think the new design you show on the lady model is a welcome improvement.

I own both 5167 and 5711, personally I like the clasp on the 5167 more.
Easier to open

I flipped the clasp around on my 5712 and like it better that way. It's more intuitive to open.

I still like my 5167 clasp more though.

Regards.

Personally, I was always taught never to rely on friction when designing mechanisms. While traditional and indeed slim, the Nautilus bracelet with its pinned links and flip lock clasp have always disappointed me from a design and engineering perspective.

My $.02

Not a fan of the clasp, I think Patek should have done buttern

But if no trouble selling I don't think Patek is in a hurry to improve it either.

Are u referring to the scratch marks on the sides of the bracelet link, caused by opening and closing the flip lock clasp too many times?
