Nice ! If you keep it in a safe the watch will come out brand new in 15 years time.
Maybe have it wound once a year or so. But that's all I would do.
No service needed imo.
Maybe a lesser watch will need a service but not a Rolex.

Lew,
I totally understand, she will appreciate it and the fact it came from her father. I know because I just gave my 18 year old daughter a Datejust for her high school graduation.

I bought my daughter her first watch tonight...

Very nice; congrats!
My son loves watches, but he's only 3. He'll sure get something when he grows up. Will continue to feed his love of watches if I can.

Sentimental, nice idea.
Practical, not a good idea.

How do you know she will like that watch? That is your taste. She may say that she has her heart set on a Cartier for her college graduation after she shows you in a magazine what she wants. You give her the Rolex, she puts in on for you and never wears it again.
Hey Dad, can I sell this thing and get what I really want?

And a new gift.......out of warranty.

And you are financing it? hmmmmmm.

Good Move, Although I am sure there will be a reason to give it to her sooner. Good Luck.

You are very thoughtful to come up with that decision, and you picked a real beauty.

Yes, there is the risk she won't like the watch. Of course, it is my taste. For all I know, she won't like watches at all. It's a risk I'm willing to take. Besides, it is hers to do with as she pleases. If it brings no joy, then she can sell it...perhaps here on TRF!

True, warranty will come and go...a downside, yes. But, for me, not a deal breaker.

And no...I'm not financing it, it's just a layaway item. So, I've got until July 21 to pay if off, which I will do in cash...unless I change my mind and cancel the transaction. I would then receive a full refund for the deposit and any other money paid toward the purchase.

I don't think that's likely, though. I just like the idea of tucking away something special for her to have one day.
