Best place to buy a used Rolex?
So besides TRF classifieds, craigslist, and eBay where else do you recommend buying a used Rolex?

TRF is the best, we have some sellers that have a great feedback.

reputable online grey dealers, but why do that when you have trustworthy folks on the sales forum.

The above is coming from the voice of experience. Buy from the forums, and don't buy the "least expensive watch". Pick your watch carefully and buy it from one of the power sellers here or TZ.

I have noticed that most cities have a few 'Watchmaker' shops - usually owned and operated by an experienced and reputable watchmaker who often has a small selection of second-hand quality watches on offer. These are usually hidden down small arcades in the inner city where only the initiated know of them. Obviously one needs to do some investigation of these before rushing into anything. My approach would be to identify them through other Rolex enthusiasts and then to get to know the owner a bit by calling in and initiating conversation on appropriate topics. I can think of one particular one in my State Capital where there is often a watch enthusiast chatting to the owner at the counter.

If you knew how good the fakes can be, you might never go anywhere but an AD for new. There are a lot of online dealers that have been in the business for a long time. I can't imagine ever using CL or ePray for a Rolex. Plenty of good guys here as well!

Where I live, pawnshops, local watch and jewelry stores have a good selection of pre-owned Rolexes. The best thing is you can touch, feel and authenticate if you know how, and you don't have to ship for warranty issues. Most of the stores are reputable. The minus is being hit by the sales tax vs buying out-of-state.

CL isnt bad, I got a great deal, and the guy met me at an AD for verification. Worked out great. There are ALOT of scammers out there on CL, and you have to be careful, but you can find lots of good watches that need a new home.

Aside from TRF, I've also bought from TZ sellers.
In both cases, you still have to do your due diligence and check the seller's referrences.

Please read my thread about stolen rolex's floating around. Don't entirely rely on the seller references either- do diligent homework on the actual watch. Good sellers can be taken or scammed too when they buy the watch from their "source", and then in turn unknowingly pass the bad watch on to you. Or, it's a bad seller doing it on purpose. |
