Explorer 214270 short review by a recent convert
Explorer 214270
This is not my first Rolex but this is my first review on TRF. Thanks to the forum posts and pictures about the Explorer, I sold my Sea Dweller for this piece. Well, not entirely a smart move but at least a Rolex that I can put my name on the card I never taken a second look at the Explorer. Always felt it was "too small", "too simple". Indeed it is not a big Rolex professional watch but big enough in terms of heritage. It is subtle and if I could use the phrase from TRF - "flying under the radar". Indeed it is not a complicated watch, not the Daytona nor the GMT Master II, a style of its own but timeless. Being simple means it is versatile and goes well with your biz suit or weekend jeans. Some posts talked about the "hour hand being too short", "crown being too small for the case", "dial losing overall balance from the predecesors". I acknowledge these features but I can live with them. Probably becos this is my first Explorer I and I don't really have a basis to compare. Nevertheless, I recommend this Rolex, as many have done previously before me. Subtle. Versatile. Classic. Sexy. |

I'm making the move to get this as my first watch. From many reviews from many TRF members it looks like I'm making the right decision.

The Exp1 is a great watch! Ive had mine a few months now I still get distracted once in a while to admire just how great it looks. I don't see the flaws some are pointing out. I've never had a problem in telling time with it with the hands its got on. Plus it's cool and confident. Nothing's more cool and confident than having a Rolex that doesn't have to scream HEY GUYS I HAVE A ROLEX!

Good review! I think this is a great watch. Too small, nonsense! Who says you have to have a huge watch...this watch has both form and function in perfect balance.
Going to pick one up for myself in the near future!

Excellent review. This is the rolex for the people that want all of the good of the brand without any of the negative (and frankly uniformed) stigma of being a rolex owner. Clean, classy and perfect in shape, materials and execution
