NY Hotel Ideas

Hi everyone,

Heading to NY for weekend with Family.. We are 4 (3 Ladies and myself). Was hoping to spend about $1000 a night. So far Trump Int'l Tower & Hotel looks very nice. Any other place within that range you could suggest?. Ideally I prefer a more modern than old style place. Tks for any input you may have.

I checked Oriental's site... $2500 a night. A bit out of my price range I fear

I stayed at Gramercy Park on Lexington after the remodel ( tons of history ) and Marriott Marquise right in Times Square. Both were nice, Times Square is full of people and Gramercy Park has a nice park across the street from the hotel, but, I walked evey where or caught the train. Prices depends on the dates

Thank you are Rebel for the Marriott recommendation. Looks great and within budget.

Just for my own head.. How far is Central Park from Times Square?

Ritz at Battery Park, great views of the Statue of Liberty. Muse in Midtown has some suites in your price range with a small terrace and whirlpools.

I can give plenty of advise, but first of all, what are you going to be doing there? Staying around Times Square might seem fun and convenient for seeing shows, but it is super-busy and not really a good restaurant scene around there. Are you looking for a four/five star old school luxury or something more fun and trendy? Do you want two rooms for that budget or one room that fits you all?

I'd say look beyond the regular luxury brands and see if your ladies might like something more hipster and fun, e.g. I've stayed at like the Bowery Hotel, which is good fun. The Library Hotel or the Giraffe are other good boutique-isn hotels. Or The Broome.

Bring good walking shoes, you'll be hitting a lot of stores with those ladies...

We land Friday noon and are there till Sunday afternoon. It's. 36 hop to NY before school is back after a small break. A 10/12 yr old and my Wife.

Eating, eating, walking and taking pictures and two dinners at some awesome restaurants. That's pretty much it. It's a short time I know but it's all we have and $1000 +/- couple hundred a night is all I can afford on this one. I'll look up all the other hotels.
Oh yes.. I'd like the horse ride around the park too

Avoid the CARLTON (28th & Madison)...that place is a dump, and in their standard rooms, you have to go out into the hall for enough space to change your mind.

I like "The Refinery" on 39th.....apart from anything else the roof terrace is fantastic, and it will cost less than your budget.

Stayed at the Trump with my wife and daughter last year. Very nice and great location. That said, I would look in to the Ritz Club level!

Maybe not what you want to hear but I would consider the W in Hoboken and then take the path train or just spring for uber back and forth (20-50 per trip depending on where you are headed each way). Plus you get a much better view and it's much easier to drive in and out.

Stayed at the Langham 5th avenue when in NY last month for about a week. Very nice apartment style hotel. Had a residence suite which has a nice living room, small kitchen and convenience like washing machine which is great to have as summer in NY and don't have to pay for hotel laundry.

Is this thanksgiving? Those prices do not make sense. Is this for one room? How big a suite are you looking at? Something is not adding up.

Indeed sounds high. Many options typically in the 300-500 range.

I would go for the W or even a not so known hotel called the Club Quarters which is right next to the World Trade Center memorial site. Just across from the W. You essentially have a decent room, and a great view on the 20th floor overlooking the memorial site for breakfast. Walking distance from Wall Street and easy access to the subway stations. Only a $20 cab ride from Korean town if you wish to eat like crazy. A few subway stations from Times Square.

It really depends on what part of the city you feel the need to be close to. I'm not a huge fan of Times Square; it's neat once, but you'll probably be over it after the first day of staying right near it.

I generally prefer Kimpton hotels and usually stay at The Eventi in NYC. It's on the North side of Chelsea 6th Ave & 30th or 31st St. It's a very modern hotel and stylish. It's not the fanciest area of the city, but very convenient to everything. Macy's is one block north and the Harold Square subway station will connect you to pretty much anything with minimal transfers.

Thanks everyone for the great ideas.
G8 I have cleared room.. Sorry

I'll be hitting the phones today/tomorrow.

Reason I think some prices I got were so crazy is that I plugged in 4 people in 1 room and it automatically pulls up the big suites. Best will be to call them which I'll do today.

Thank you everyone.. More than enough superb ideas and once all done I will do the honorable thing and report back with details.

Rgds, Shawn
