My -78 1680
This 1680 was bought by my father in Riyadh in -78. It has had a rough life as my brothers main diver but since a while I have it and nowadays it will only do desk diving. The first and so far only service was undertaken by a Rolex dealer here in Sweden last fall. Never polished but i got a new crystal since I want to use it when sporting, showering etc. After the service I runs about +1-2 seconds per day depending on how active i am. The pearl in the bezel is in fact original, but cracked. I have seen a few more of there white pearls that do not seem to fade.
I really like this watch since it can handle a lot. I wear it whatever I do and it feels great not to have to think twice whether my watch is up to what I am doing. For me this is the ultimate Submariner since this is the model I have been exposed to since I was a kid. My brother used a different bracelet when he used the watch. I chose to use the original never worn flip-lock bracelet and it is of course as new! Sorry about the pics, the camera battery decided to go belly up just when I was about to start shooting. |

Love it....I have one I purchased in 1979 and it has the most beautiful patina due to the tritium fading.
