OP Dilemma

Currently hesitating:
Current watch Breitling Superocean Heritage
Considering to buy an OP but hard to choose:
Rhodesium grey 39 - preowned (2015)
Black 41 - new
Watch intended for everyday wear occasionally dressed up.
What’s your opinion?

Hard to get excited about an OP

But can understand the use case; I would get Rhodesium so it has some interest

But would go explorer rather than black OP

Personally I would get either a DJ or Explorer

Great choice for a daily and occasional dressy watch

I would prefer the grey. Plenty black dials around and the grey OP is really a nice shade. No wrong choice between the two.

Either would be a great choice. Mainly depends on what other color dials you currently have. Try to get a variety from what you currently have.

Rolesium + Rhodium = Rhodesium?

I’d always suggest making the stretch to an EXP1 or DJ if planning on buying an OP.

I am not an OP fan. I would get a SS DJ, preowned, sliver or white dial with jubilee bracelet and fluted bezel, pre-owned. It can be dressed up or down and could service one for a lifetime.

Welcome to the forum

I’d go for something with a little more color

Much more bling than what the he may want, and may not want a date. OP will last just as long

This seems very different than what the OP seems to be looking for. Maybe the exact opposite.

Have you considered the silver dial with gold accents. It’s beautiful. Not sure why there is OP hate here. It’s a great watch.

I don’t know either, I think if it as a slightly dressier version of the Exp I everyone raves about

I agree….it’s a great dial (and probably my next purchase).

The OP is a fabulous watch. It does whatever you need (dressed down, dressed up, etc).

Have you considered the OP39 with white dial? It’s not really white….more of an eggshell/silver…and IMHO is one of Rolex’s best dials. It’s also dis-continued and may well go up in value.

I had the Rhodium dial OP 39 and found it somewhat retro but great looking otherwise. Unfortunately I found it hardly legible at night due to the lack of contrast between the dial and the hands so I had the Rhodium dial replaced by the White dual, by Rolex. By the way, although not the snow white, of sorts, the white dial is still very white - do not get confused by many interpretations of “white” in this context.

Anecdotally, I have recently bought an OP41 Bright Black, at retail and can tell you that it is evidently larger, had a better movement and overall is fancier looking in comparison to the OP39 either white or Rhodium. It is a better watch albeit not by a large margin.

I also have a brand new black Sub but prefer my black OP for daily use. It is a great looking watch indeed.

I think it’s a great watch, like most colour schemes ..

I am a huge fan of the modern OPs, I have two of the brightly colored 41s. From your choices I think the black dial 41 would be the best. It’s a stealthy GADA watch that would go equally well with shorts or a suit.

The OP is a great watch. The black dial will be a versatile watch. Blue and green and great too. Silver dial is truly unique as well. Best to you!

This is the move.

black DJ36 > Exp1 36 > grey OP39 > black OP39

I got QUITE excited by the OP. I bought a new OP41 blue last May & love it. I also own a 1999 AK & 2022 YG Day Date 36.

The OP is a simple, elegant watch & can be worn everywhere....I especially love the big simple dial & the lume shows up great at night!!

I love my 2023 36 mm silver dial OP, also. Some people don’t understand the concept that “sometimes, less is more.”

My 2 Cents:

Get the new OP 41.
New watch with 5 year warranty.
Black dial w/ SS case + bracelet is classic and goes from casual to formal.
Not everyone needs a date function.

Let us know what you decide
