My first Rolex - 1943 - 6532

Good evening everyone,

First time posting here on these forums. I started collecting watches about 2 years ago and my main interest is to find watches that are in bad need of a repair. I have given 4 watches new life but this is my first rolex.

I know this is going to be dificult but I found it in Iceland like all the others and I have a great company that helps me give thema new life.

Well I will know more on monday but here goes :)

What fo you think of my new baby :)

It's got lots of potential. The movement looks very crisp and will turn out nicely I'm sure.

The case seems to be unpolished and on that model the polishing scheme is a little different. I would leave that as is. An original un refinished dial will be hard to find but you can at some point.

The watch is mid 50's not 1943.

Thank you, Im hoping the movement will turn out to be ok

The serial of the watch puts it at 1943 - is that odd ?

The date may be inside the case back, does that say 57? Can't quite make it out, it's the number just below the 4 digit ref.

But serial is six digits 267 xxx. And if im not mistaken that lands it on 1943.

Any reference you find to serial numbers versus dates is an approximation, because Rolex has never made that data public. However, it is known that Rolex recycled their serial numbers in the 1950's. 267xxx approximates to 1957, as the case back date would indicate (ii57 is second quarter 1957).

See here for one of many of these enthusiast assembled date vs serial number tables:

How about just fitting hands, crown and a new plexi to begin with? I like the look of the original stripped dial a lot!
