So - late to the discussion - but I do sense a couple of trends I've seen over the years. These may contribute to the appearance of coarse posts in TRF.

First- the newbie. I see a trend each year just after Christmas and the New Year when it seems there is an uptick in new members. And within a month an uptick in newly banned newbies. During the holidays we have spare time and consume more TRF to fill the bandwidth. Megatrend-like content analysis could give a poor impression of TRF.

Next, the uptick in mobile users and Tapatalk. Before Tapatalk, I always knew what the prevailing rules were for the section in which I was reading/posting. But with Tapatalk, and scanning Unread or New Posts, it is more likely to gain an impression of TRF from the headline, the most recent post or a pic. That can lead readers to gain an impression that is not borne out by full content analysis.

As for me, I see the true value in our community as a whole. The most friendly place on the web to talk about our passion for watches (and pens and cigars and bourbon and cars...).

So if you like TRF, "See Something, Say Something" help the newbies without rancor...and if it's something truly disgusting, Report It!!!
