GMt Repair

I have my 1977 GMT Master ready from service from a certified dealer.
They had a problem getting the watch to pass the water pressure test and asked if that was ok. I told them to keep trying and let me know.

They noted the watch has now passed the water pressure test....BUT the warranty notes that it excludes MOISTURE damage.

Am I missing something here? How can a watch pass a water pressure test BUT not have a warranty for moisture damage?

Thanks,

John

The pressure test only confirms the watch has effective seals on the day of the test. It doesn't confirm it'll be good to the rated depth of the watch or for any particular duration. I wouldn't expect a warranty for moisture damage to a vintage piece.

Of course, they don't accept liability should you flood your vintage watch. As said already, the test ("I told them to keep trying" ) only means that it passed that test, at that time. Even if you get a 2-year warranty from a RSC on a vintage watch, if it then fails and floods, your dial/watch is ruined, regardless of a little card from them, with a date on it. They'd likely just put a service dial in it...

Thanks,

You told them to "keep trying", and so they may have heavily greased the case back o-ring (or whatever) to comply with your request.

This does not mean that it will continue to be water tight into the future..

The first thing might be to understand why/where the failure to seal is.
