I'm getting a bit OCD about my timepiece, cleaning it twice a week with wristclean, wiping it down twice a day. Getting every scratch or mark of it with cape cod, I think i need to get a life...

My Explorer is quite heavily scratched and I love her for it. There is no watch like her, her scratches are unique

Well in my experience over the past 12 years of being a mod on this forum OCD has increased 1000% by most of the new Rolex watch owners.

I'd lay off the cape cod. It works by removing (a very thin) layer of metal every time you use it.

It is quite bad. I think it's because i spent so much money on a watch i want it to be like brand new. I was the same with my classic car before i sold it to buy my DJ11

Careful with the cape cod. Like others have said your removing metal every time you use it. Bevels and edges will no be as crisp over time. Plus the scratches add personality!

Lol my watch looks like its been throughna war or 2. Im quite surprised I havent poped off any lume at this point. Scratches are apart of life. Only time I cringe is when there's a really deep one that won't buff out without alot of polishing. Those ones kinda blow

Interesting observation. Is there some sort of underlying reason (or viable explanation) for this current phenomena?

Price increases, PCL's, precious metals, from "tools" to jewelry... would be my guess

I don't see any need for polish, and you are probably ruining your Rolex slowly but surely with that cape cod. FYI.

Right here goes...I think because the watches are now so expensive when you buy new, You want to keep it that way. Also It's all relative to some people it's dust in there pocket so they don't look after them. To others it's a lot of money.

Owning a Rolex is a lot of money to me and I didn't take the decision to buy one lightly.

That being said, I figured out very early on that I would get far more enjoyment from them if I stopped worrying about them getting scratched.

Get it insured for peace of mind, throw caution to the wind and enjoy the thing! You only live once and you can't take it with you.

Every time you get it serviced Rolex will return it to you like the day you first bought it. Brand new

As long as you're enjoying it that's the main point. If cleaning and buffing bring you pleasure of ownership, go for it.

^^^^ The key perhaps is not to let typical wear (and minor scratches) detract from your overall enjoyment of the timepiece as Rolexes were designed to be rugged and reliable in both sedentary and active lifestyle/environments.
