I own assorted Tissot, Tudor, Omega and Rolex. Never once have I mentioned my watch and never once has anyone pointed a watch out.

I'm very cool with that. I wear them for me, not for other folks and I prefer to be down low.

One comment I used to get regularly back in the 80's after I purchased my first Rolex, which was a two-tone Datejust, was "is that a real Rolex"? I usually answered "no", just to shut them up and did not want to deal with the next question which was "how much". One of my co-workers recently noticed my watch and asked "is that a Rolex", condesendingly (sp?). I just answered "yep", but I should have answered "yeah, don't you have one?"

Waste of money.

And they are right.

I rarely tell anyone and typically wear dress shirts or long sleeve fishing shirts. If someone asks “it’s just a dive watch, I like the color blue”
When a new gf asks, I say pretty much the same thing. Down the road they figure out my dad started the problem along with fishing, boats, guns, muscle cars, and motorcycles.

I had a $500 Vestal Restrictor in gunmetal during my early 20s that got a lot more compliments than any Rolex I’ve worn. It was huge but also fit my size.

I would and do not ever "tell" anyone outside of this forum and one watch buddy about my watch or latest purchase. That's my business. To anyone outside it would seem arrogant and rude. It stays within the hobby.

Yeah, and it is one that's been recurring time and time again. Seems to be something us folks do like to write about. A lot.
Cheers

Just been out for dinner with friends and wore my full gold GRNR which I hadn’t worn in their presence previously.

My friend spotted it and said ‘new Rolex eh?’ to which I said ‘well, I’ve had it a while but maybe you’ve not seen it’.

‘it’s horrible’ was his reply.

He’s not a watch guy, just an honest fella.

I like it anyway!🤣

i don't know you or your friend and we buy these for ourselves but i can't imagine ever saying that to a friend. i'm all for roasting friends given the opportunity but in that context it's just a weird comment to me and another reason why i just cover them up if i can nowadays. these days there's like a 1% chance that a watch brings out a positive conversation or experience

"...show them your watch...".

Why would anyone show their watch to anyone? It doesn't make any logical sense.

I think some of you guys are just trying to be funny…

I wear my watches. I have friends. Plus, my wife is a socialite. And she has friends that are socialites. So we’re always getting invited to cool parties and events because of her.

Fortunately, I just never hear some of those types of ill-mannered comments that many of you have shared. In fact, other than maybe 1 or 2 compliments, nobody ever says anything about my watches.

I don’t think it is far fetched that we show off our watch or call attention to it. Perhaps you got a big promotion, or a bonus, and bought the watch due to your success. Nice to sometimes get recognition from others rather than living with your watch in a cocoon. As humans we do need some positive strokes.

They normally ask me to stop shoving my watch in their face, and act like they’re not as impressed as I know they should be.
