Trade my SubC for a SD4K?

Stopped by my local AD today to try on the BLNR, which will be my next watch, and I decided to try on the SD4K for the first time. Well, I loved it. While thicker than my SubC, it didn't wear big at all and actually felt very comfortable. The dial and case also appeared to be smaller, perhaps due to the thinner lugs and the matte dial.? Anyway, I can trade my current SubC date for a gently used SD4K plus about $1500. Thoughts? Am I crazy to be strongly considering doing this?

Note that one reason I'm considering doing this is because I feel like the SD4K would be more different from the BLNR than my SubC since both the Sub and BLNR have the cyclops and glossy black dial. Assume that I'm definitely picking up the BLNR. TIA!

Here are a few pictures from today.

I would move up to the 4K. Have had them all, and it's my favorite SS rolex

if you like the SD4K more than your sub, it sounds like an easy decision for a $1500 top up. That sounds like a very good trade deal, assuming similar condition of the watches.

I've had neither piece, but IMHO the SD4K is the way to go!

Yeah I would do it. I have that combo - SD4K and BLNR - and they make a great pair.

Get one before they're completely extinct!

I have the SD4K and love it. It's a great pair with the BLNR. Although I might trade my GMT for the new SS Sky Dweller.

I know I am going to be in the minority here but, the Sub is my favorite watch so I would say no. I don't like how thick it is and I'm also not a fan of the fully graduated bezel. If you love it I say go for what makes you happy

I think the Sub + BLNR make a great combo too

I did this years ago and have zero regret. I have just never been able to truly bond with an 116610's Maxi Case...and I've owned a few! That said I really do love my LVC, but wish the case dimensions were similar to the SDC4K!

If you tried it on and liked it, then it's a no brainer. For me, I bought blind and did not like the thickness and went BLNR instead and couldn't be happier.

SD looks closer to your SubC than the BLNR does. In fact, I'm sure no one except yourself will ever know you got a new watch. I thought BLNR looked too close to SubC at first, but that small blue accent makes a huge difference in real life.

I'd do it, the sd4k is the most balanced modern 6 digit diver imo.

I also like the SD4K's bezel better than the SubC. The minute markers make the bezel look more toolish. Which I love.

Thanks for all the responses! I'm leaning towards making the trade. I liken both a lot, but again I think the SD plus the BLNR would be a nice change of pace and variety for me. Also, I'm thinking that I can always pick up another Sub down the road, whether the date again or perhaps the bluesy or 114060, while this particular SD will be much more difficult to find.

I actually did it the other way though not as a direct trade. I had one of the first SD4ks but despite being a long time SD wearer, I could not get used to it and flipped it. I later picked up a new SubC and despite the larger lugs, found it nicer to wear. All said however, I sometimes wonder if I maybe did not give it long enough on the wrist, and I thought about going again for one. The new 2017 Seadweller might colour thinking though and I might wait to see one in the flesh!

Me personally, it's not worth the extra $1,500. Stick with the SubC.

If it works for you I would go for it. The differences are very visible to us WIS but to all others they look very similar.

I prefer the SD4K over the LN Sub. Also gives better variation paired with the BLNR as you said.

The SD4K in its current form (116600) is the King of Tool Watches, the timeless classic that will never go out of style, the last of the real Sea Dwellers, the Fever from Geneva, the undisputed light heavyweight Champion, the Secretariat of watches, the Nuclear Option etc.

Get one.
