Explorer II (older model) pricing

Ive noticed when browsing jewellers windows in recent months that the Explorer II seems to sell at around £4,000 GB.

At first this made me excited as I paid £2500 for mine in 2006. Then I assumed that it must be a newer model. But since joining this forum Ive discovered that the newer model is only just being released!

So, prior to the release of the new 2011 model, what kind of price did the ExpII sell for?

It's always been a slow burner compared to the Sub, and to an extent, the GMT II.

I remember the street price of a 5 year old Exp II to be £1700-1800 in 2007/8.

Nowdays it's a lot more though I doubt that people are paying the £4k being asked for LNIB last versions.

Thanks, so it seems the price has risen since 2006. Is this because of any modifications/improvements, or just a general price hike?

Just regular price increases from Rolex! List is a tad over £4K currently, and I would imagine your 2006 example is worth circa £3K if it is clean with box & papers

Not forgetting some people "hyping" the explorer 2 with a 3186 movement....they seem to think they are worth more and in the future will be collectible and worth more than their 3185 counterparts...

I think the list price is £4550 and seems like the grey dealers are selling NIB for £4000 an older watch seems to be around £3000 now
