Day-Date or Royal Oak
Hi guys, I’m currently facing a dilemma. I would like to expand my current watch collection and I’m not sure which piece I should go for. Just so you have an overview on my current collection, for now, I have:
- GMT-Master II 116710LN - GMT-Master II 116710BLRO - Cosmograph Daytona 116520, Black dial - Hublot Big Bang Chronograph 301.SX.1170.RX Now, I’m considering two pieces and I can only go for one. First one is Rolex Day-Date 40mm Green dial. I only have steel in my collection and I always wanted a gold piece. Plus, I’m a big fan of president bracelet and I want to complete the list of the three major Rolex bracelets in my collection haha. Second one is Royal Oak 15500ST.OO.1220ST.01 or jumbo (whichever I can get). I find Royal Oak the one of the sexiest watch out there, I always wanted to own one. Also the bracelet is just madness. Plus, I would expand my collection with one additional brand. Here you go this is my dilemma. I want to read your thoughts (without taking into consideration price difference). PS: everything might change on September 1st when they release novelties |

Royal Oak. Why? You sound more enthusiastic to me about that option.

Hmm...such different pieces, but I think your collection could do with a splash of gold, and the president bracelet is a beauty/very comfortable.
However, you seem excited by the AP, so that selection may satiate you more. Either way, they're both great watches, and you cannot go wrong with either. Go with your gut! |

If up to me, a DD without a doubt. Might even hunt down the discontinued DD2 if buying used is an option.

I prefer the DD and specifically the WG version with the green dial and roman numerals. Understated luxury.

Or... Sell the GMT LN and Hublot, add some cash and buy both the President and the RO.

Just a thought: a gold RO would be awesome. Depending on your budget you may have to free up some extra cash via sales of some of your pieces. I would move the Big Bang to help out here. From your collection that is easiest to re-acquire later.

I have the 15500ST in grey, stunning and would not swap it for a DD. The AP bracelet is a work of art and doesn't detract that its not in precious metal, those plots sparkle. I also find the AP bracelet very comfortable and not such a scratch magnet as some claim.
Considerations might be the weight difference between the two and whether you actually want to see the day to not. Have you actually tried both on? If you do want to see the day you could always go with the AP Owl which is a DayDate ;o) ref 25572 or 25594 with a moon phase. Its much cheaper than a PM DD and if you went down the "sell the GMT and Hublot" route, added with the money from those and what's left over you might even be able to get yourself a DD ( certainly a 36mm one if you really wanted them both ). Price not a consideration, then take a look at the WG AP's or the Platinum Perpetuals .........& if you want real variety with the Rolex bracelet's you still got the Jubilee, Oysterflex & the Leather to play with yet. Lots more collecting to do !!!!

Day-Date or Royal Oak
I have both and I would choose the PM DD over any SS RO.

If you can get the Jumbo, I’d buy that one. If not, I’d go with the DD.
