Royal Oak Offshore 43m Titanium vs. Taupe

Big fan of the new AP offshore 43mm. Thoughts on the smoked taupe vs. the titanium? Any owners that have photos would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I think the taupe is more popular (I prefer the grey personally) but I'd love to hear if there's a substantial weight difference between the two as well.

I have the grey and love it more than the taupe. I have also personally see more taupe listed for sale vs the grey ceramic. You obviously can’t go wrong with either.

Between the two I’d opt for the taupe if MSRP, but then I just got the black one. I’d have purchased taupe as well if that had come in first.

my gosh, i've been thinking which to get out of these 2 too.

I'd love to have a titanium sports watch, but the Taupe is a very unique color.

So full disclosure, I have been unable to see the gray in person yet, only in photos. I have however held the black and blue in hand, and bought the Taupe.

The taupe is a very special dial, unique in color and has a very 'powerful' look to the overall package. I've had non watch friends, who usually never care about any watch a wear stop and ask for a closer look. And for these friends, that never occurs even on colored PM watches.

When the light hits the dial of this watch, there is something truly amazing that draws you into the dial. My understanding is that the gray comes off as more flat in texture even though both dials are textured the same way.

All of that said, I find the black bezel / bronze-ish color a bit hard to match on clothes. So I do think the gray dial has that going for it.

I'm trying to get the gray one as well. I don't think you can go wrong either way.

On AP I heavily lean towards monochrome which puts the design and shape center stage. On ROO I value lightweight. Both add up to titanium grey dial.

It seems distribution for the grey dial 43mm started a bit later than for the others - not sure if the rate is still lower than for the others. Taupe has definitely seen the most incoming posts on TRF.

Yeah all the groups on Facebook have seen a ton of taupe. The titanium blue dial has been listed a bunch. Looks like it’s catching steam saw one just sell for 48k. I have a feeling these are going to slowly creep up in price as people realize these are undervalued.

It could also be that the taupe is more desired, therefore soliciting a higher street value and thereby causing more people to flip them for a profit.

I have zero interest in the secondary market value of my ROO 43 Taupe but, for me, its the pick of the bunch for the 2021 new releases in the Offshore range.

Taupe. Went through this myself. Taupe won every time but that TI was just a close second. Like others mentioned, the smoked dial effect is fantastic.

Also not tracking its secondary value or rarity. I have seen one other ROO 43mm in the wild and it was a TI. It was very nice looking.

I like the heft of steel compared to TI. I had a 47mm TI Panerai and it just never felt the same as a steel watch. If one is weight conscious then Ti is great, albeit soft.

I've tried them on. The taupe is the special one, the one to get. The other is fine, just not very special. Its all about the dial

I was under the impression that APs TI is harder then their steel, but I could be wrong.

I was offered my first watch tonight…the titanium with blue dial and titanium bezel. They also had the black dial with the ceramic bezel, but it was already sold. I turned it down as I really want something with the ceramic bezel if going offshore.

With that said…I REALLY liked the red on the hands. It really pops and adds some fun. The black dial is such a great looking watch in person. With all that said, I wore the titanium on the left and black dial SS on the right and walked around the store. It is noticeable for sure and I loved the way the titanium felt. It is super comfortable. The size is great on my 7.5” wrist and I always feel like watch companies make each version compelling for one reason or another, but never mix the best stuff together to make the perfect version? That is how the ROOC feels. Man, would love the black dial in TI or the blue dial with ceramic bezel.

I went for the gray titanium/ceramic bezel but love them all. Cant go wrong with any of course but I think TI is most robust as a daily. New 43 are fantastic with new movement and subtle design enhancements.

Also with all of these its going to be simple to change straps to give a totally different vibe. I am hoping we will soon have 20 plus colors to choose from in rubber.

That said - the taupe looks SPECTACULAR in person... Much much better with more depth than the pictures make you believe

Do you miss not having lume on the hour markers? I have this one as top of the list with my AD, but do wish it was Ti. I would love to see a grey smoke dial version!

The one posted here looks to have a lighter dial then others we have seen. Correct? Less black on the edges? Could just be the light or my imagination.

Still waiting for this to show up... So this is me trying it on Imin the boutique...

That said, there's still a noticeable gradient on the dial. May just be the way the light hit it. As I was saying, depending on how you hold your wrist and how the light reflects, it changes quite a bit

I purchased the grey ti but went through exactly the same dilemma. I typically wear blue jeans and white or dark colour t shirts (not a fashion guy!) so based on that I went with Grey so it would just match everything and I didn’t need to think about trying to match it. As a stand-alone piece the taupe dial does have the biggest wow factor in my opinion. Also moving from Rolex watches so the Ti gave me easier / compatible wearability as the steel versions are noticeably heavier. For those interested the 43mm in Ti weighs a couple grams less than a 2021 Rolex GMT in steel.
