Incoming - 16610LV - Flat Four (F Serial)
I’ve recently had the pleasure of obtaining a decent amount of newly released Rolex watches and I had started turning my attention to vintage watches...my first vintage was picking up a super clean, full set Rootbeer with a nipple dial and couldn’t have been happier!
The 16610LV (Kermit) is a watch I dreamed of owning for many years but didn’t fancy getting one that was owned by someone else. However, my attention has taken a turn and is starting to appreciate some of the older watches and knew getting a Kermit was something I would now want. It’s a minefield when considering what to get as I knew there was a massive pull for a Flat (or Fat as some reference) Four but trying to figure out what is a good example, should I buy with papers or not etc. What I did learn through my quest is that there was a time where any 16610 could be made to look like a Kermit by swapping the bezel/dial and you could get away with as the papers don’t actually have the reference “LV” but instead just states 16610. So I was informed that I would need to seek a watch that came with its original swing tag as that is the only piece that displays both the 16610LV reference along with the serial number. At this point I thought it be better to turn attention finding a very clean full set Kermit and not being too hung up about being a Flat Four but yesterday I got lucky and was presented with a FULL SET and in very good condition FLAT FOUR!!! My understanding is that the Flat Fours were then switched to the pointed Four from around serials beginning with F54...glad to say that mine is a F53 so one of the last ones to be made! The dial supposedly is referred to a Mk1 (correct me I’m wrong here anyone) as it has the round O and the Swiss Made is longer and hovers over the 28-32 second markers. This still had the stickers on from it’s last service earlier this year and was thinking about whipping them off until it dawned on me that apparently RSC don’t have any Flat Four bezels so any damage would not be easily solved. Now this is the part that puts me in unknown territory...I have a watch that I might consider making a safe queen! Reality is, I don’t think it’ll be long until I feel the urge to wear...just might think twice about what environment I do! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Beautiful watch. Congratulations on your pickup!
I’ll be the first to say it, but you only live once and life is short. Who are you keeping it in the safe for? The next owner? I hope you enjoy it whether it’s sitting in the safe or out in the wild! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Thanks! Exactly that...I honestly have never had the thought of putting a watch away until I picked up a 116710LN earlier this year after they were discontinued but when I bought it I had my son’s name put on the warranty card so it’s every intention to keep safe for him. This would be the same thing but I absolutely would want the joy from wearing this so as I said, I don’t think it’ll be too long until I do end up wearing it! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Sounds like whatever you end up doing it will be best for you. Again, not to butt in on what you should do with your personal belongings, but when we unexpectedly lost my dad, my son wanted his grandfather’s watch and he loved the fact that the watch was full of scratches. But you know what’s best and you have a super nice and collectible watch and I’m very envious! A Merry Christmas indeed! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

That's an awesome addition. Congrats on a great pick-up. Love your choice for your first acquisition purchase, too!
