Icon5 Redialed datejust 1601 from the 70s?

Hello everybody,

Scrolling through Chrono24, I came across this Datejust 1601 apparently from 1974. The watch seems okay, but when zooming in, the font of the printing seems a bit off. Since it is a fairly old watch, and I know about the existence of straight "J" Datejust dial models, I was wondering if you think this is legit, fake, or a redial. Or if it was common that rolex changed fonts relatively often back in the day.

If you look for a datejust 1601 and filter "Italy" and "1974" you can find it. It's the one selling aorund 4654$.

Let me know your thoughts!

PS: Sorry I can not post links yet. I would apprecite if any user includes the pics so we can discuss.

Hi folks, the watch in question is this one https://www.chrono24.com.au/rolex/da...id31920692.htm

I don't love it - it looks wack and these Datejusts are so common that I'd get one that doesn't have such a poor redial job.

"X" is way off too. Top is smaller than the bottom.

Hello, I just found that same dial being sold by a "trusted" rolex dial seller called "firstclassdials". Sorry again that I can not post pictures of the listing but it looks exactly the same as in the picture, if you go to his ebay shop and look for datejust white dials 1601 are the ones being sold around 175$.

Could this justify it is a legit dial? What yall think?

Sometimes what a newbie thinks is "the same" is not really the same. I'd suggest posting photos.

Found another dial from the same seller in which the C and Y are aligned (not the one that TTG posted).

Why that many printing variations of the "same" dial?

PS: It is really painful not being able to post pictures.

The font of DateJust is way off, and there shouldn't be a spacing between Date and Just. Even on a straight J DateJust, there is no gap.
Compare it to other 1601s and you'll see. It's very obvious. Even if you run a search of 1601s from 1974 there's not one that looks alike.

Here is one that passed through my hands several years ago - circa 1974 based on the serial number.

That one looks to have better printing to me than the other dials posted here.
I never knew there was so much variation in these DJ dials.

You can post pictures using the "Go Advanced" button below and follow the sizing requirements in the pop up window for the various file formats. Or use the Tapatalk app. What you cannot do is post a URL until you have 10 posts. Good luck!
