I work in an airport here in the UAE, and daily have to go through security because my work is airside. Has my watch ever set the detectors off? Nope, not once.

Recently (last month) travelled from London to Fiji via LAX, then to Samoa. From Samoa flew to Rarotonga via Auckland, then all the way back to London via Auckland and LAX. At each airport I put my Rolex in my carry on case when it came time to go through the security scanners and everything was fine.
If keeping it on the wrist is fine then all good, but I agree with Rashid: if you've never been to a place before, or have any doubt, then play it safe. |

I fly a lot.
One time on Chicago they required I remove my watch. It was that, or I wasn't flying. That was the only time.

I have never, ever, ever, taken my watch off and I have been through numerous security lines and check points throughout the world.

I never take the Deepsea off travelling and it never sets of the metal detector, but last year while on a 6 week round the world trip, for the first time ever I was specifically told to take it off. It was at the last minute so there was no opportunity for safely storing it in my backpack, it just went in a plastic tray. All was well but I was unsettled by the experience.

I always keep my watch in a pouch inside my handcarry along with my cell when I go through airports.
I put it back on when I'm through security.

Well, the problem started when you took it of your wrist.... Don't! I never in any of my travels have taken my watch off the wrist. If they want you to, say no and ask for a pat down. Done.

I'm always asked. To avoid it being touched by someone else or touching itself (even worse), I carry a RSC pouch. I put it in the pouch and into the front pocket of my carry on before taking off my shoes. It's a hassle, but at least I do not have to rush.

I never remove my watch and never am asked to. Never sets off the metal detectors or causes concern in the scanner.

As had been said above numerous times, leave it on. why remove your baby from your wrist, unless they instruct you otherwise.
I have found I have more problems with the "random" illicit substance/explosives sreening. |
