Battle of the titans 5711/1A-010(blue dial) vs. 5164A
It is all about aesthetics. Which one strikes your fancy more? They both look so nice and yes, 5167A is heavily considered as well!

I would pick the nautilus over the aquanaut. But the 5167R over the 5711. Go figure!

Based on aesthetics the 5711. Based on comfort, having another time zone, and the fact that the PCL's on my the 5711 take a beating if the watch is worn frequently the 5164. Either way you can't go wrong though.

If you travel frequently pick the 5164 - it's a no-brainer.

5711. Aquanauts have absolutely zero aesthetic appeal to me...

Interesting thread, Fred. i was just contemplating this tonight over a glass of Woodford Reserve. Granted I haven't even seen my 5164a yet but I'd probably still vote 5711. A couple of reasons why:
1) It's classic 2) It's cheaper 3) It's a little more versatile 4) It's easier to flip 5) The clean blue dial is mesmerizing Having said all that, these are two completely different watches. While they're only 0.8mm different in case size, there is definitely a difference in thickness. The 5164a feels more substantial (even with the rubber strap) and sportier (perhaps again because of the rubber strap). There's no question that the 5164a feels more modern than the 5711. For me, it's like loving a vintage car vs a modern reinterpretation of that car. The newer car has different materials, more complications, busier looking, and really shares nothing but maybe some design elements with the older car. At the end of the day, there's no wrong answer here (the right answer being "both"). For me, I love both and would wear a 5711 while driving down the road in a Tesla Model S P85+ (gratuitous reference to a car that's "piqued" my interest). |

5711 for the seamless integration of the jewel-like bracelet.

The movement on the 64 has more going on. It first and foremost about the engine for me.

so different and an excellent pair, but, if there can be only one, it's the 5711 for sure.

I faced the same dilemma a short time ago and decided to go with the 5164. Although I don't travel nearly enough to justify the extra cost for the 2nd time complication, there was just something about the watch in its entirety that appealed to me. Conversely, when I looked at the 5711 - although a classic and a thing of beauty - it just seemed rather plain and somewhat dated. I have never once regretted my decision and couldn't be happier with the 5164.

Own both. For classic and ultimate wearability is 5711. It is the ultimate beater "UB" Complication the 5164. Love the strap as well.

The 5711 is the icon and I would LOVE to own one but the 5164 just sang to me more when I tried them both on.
Great decision to have. Both amazing! |

I much prefer the aesthetic of the 5164. Yet I mistakenly voted 5711 WiSian slip?

The 5711 is near perfect IMO. I had the pleasure of trying one one recently, and I just loved the dial, and the beautiful bracket ..... Buttery feel on the wrist compared to any Rolex.

I love the complication of the 5164 and the 5712 so for me, I would and did choose the 5164. As has been said before, there is no wrong answer, both watches are stunning.
Congrats Mike on your new 5164! |

Hey Mike, how does the thickness of the 5164 compare to your 5980? Thanks and look forward to your thoughts/ review of the 5164.
