Policy on "genuine or fake" threads?

This thread still up
http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=482009

but this morning a lady posted a pic of a "1982 submariner" and asked if it were genuine. That thread is gone.

What is the policy?

The policy is that if someone deliberately posts a fake, saying that they own a few, etc, etc, -- like you did on that 1982 Sub thread -- it will be removed.

Clear?

No, but you got it shut down with your post, described above. Without your input, it would have just been moved to the Watchout section.

Generally a thread that asks if it's "real or fake" will be moved to the Watch-Out boards. If it's on the General Board, and authentic it may be left there, especially if it already has a number of comments. The whole point of the Watch-Out Board is for members to get assessment of potential purchases and input on particular on-line photos; it's not a Board just for fakes or fake discussion.

If a poster says "here are some of my watches", and they are fakes, once we have a bit of fun it will likely get binned and the poster banned because there are other Forums for folks who like their stuff fake.

The Vintage Board is a different animal and those who hang out there are definitely different from the masses on the General Board. Vintage Experts are there to educate and inform, and more lenient discussion is usually allowed; especially if it is going to expand the knowledge base or clear up confusion on a particular example.

We spend time discussing different threads and topics to see if they are appropriate to leave or if there is no value to the membership.

Sorry about that didn't know about this intricacy. I posted the submariner replica to show how there are other counterfeits out there that are quite passable and as a general warning, since the thread was about replica submariners, mentioning as well that I was aware that a friend had bought a submariner that even a pawn shop purchased as genuine. If the posting or discussion of fakes is such a sensitive topic I certainly wasn't aware. My intent was to educate, warn and add to the thread by illustrating how good these fake submariners may be.

Ok, read Larry's informative post again, then read the rules, specifically this one:

5. THIS IS NOT A FORUM FOR THE DISCUSSION OF FAKE WATCHES, BRACELETS ETC, and your opinion are about FAKE WATCHES and who makes them, sells them, buys them and wears them is NOT welcome.

Not arguing about the rules but: I earlier today posted pix on fakes as I wanted to educate myself and be a better paticipant seeing I was a NEWBIE. The sticky for newbies I read. I did not know there were rules a GENERAL DISCUSSION. Maybe TRF rules shud be in the new members area that is my .02. And somewhere it talks about people being friendly here...I beg to differ. My thread was greated by 2 rude remarks and one person saying Read the rules. Nothing else or kindly directing me to the rules.
Lesson learned but maybe a bit more understanding, after all I'm an old geezer and not used to forums.
Thank you

Funny I'm still a newbie to the forums (long time lurker mind you) and my posts have all blended seamlessly and my topics replied to in a constructive manner...

On a side note: We're both from Ontario!
