I've always heard nothing but praises for AP chronographs while hearing mixed reviews about the Daytona.
When the Daytona came out in 2000 it won just about every independent award for about 3 years in a row and is still widely considered one of the best chronograph movements available at any price range meaning it competes with movements that cost several times the price.

The very fact that you are comparing it with AP is testament to it's quality.
