The clasp of a desk diver

I’ve had my Explorer for a year. I wear it daily - at work, around the house, etc.
I work at a desk most of the day. I can’t seem to get past thinking about the scratches that are accumulating on the clasp as it rubs against my desk as I work.

This bother anybody else?

I should just forget about it, enjoy the watch, and take care of those scratches at service.

There we go again.

It really is up to you. Don't let anyone else tell you what should and shouldn't bother you. Make your own decision.

Keep a folded microfiber cloth on your desk and under your wrist while working and it will help keep some scratches off.

My bracelet is so scratched up on my Sub and OP they have all merged together to the point where you can't really see them, since there isn't much surface area unaffected.

I personally enjoy the scratches and the look that it develops. But I also know of friends who buy protective film to cover the clasp as they enjoy a scratch free look.

Its your watch do what you feel like :)

My GMT meteorite bracelet and clasp have lots of hairline scratches. Better this than never enjoying your watch. You don’t want every step you take that you have to worry about scratching it. After a service they can refinish it and it will look brand new if you want. Till then, don’t sweat it.

The clasp is, ultimately, a consumable item, and in any event is easily refurbished. Irritating at most, I'd ave thought.

I've had many watches, including Rolex, that come in to my shop with center links worn through to the pins. All of them were being worn by someone that sits at a desk all day. At first glance, you would swear that they took a file, and flattened the band in the clasp area. Most have said " Why would my watch get worn like this, I don't use that hand to move my computer mouse?" Next time you are sitting at your computer, pay attention to the position of your wrists. Even though you are moving your "mouse hand" more, it is usually elevated above the desk. The left hand is laying on the desk, slightly tilted towards you. Every movement of the left arm drags your watch across the desk, and almost always in the same exact spot on the band...the 12 o'clock side of the clasp, and the first 2 links beside it.

Forget about it all normal wearing scratches easily remedied at normal RSC service,if you had seen my SD after 5 long years working as a real working tool underwater ,think you desk diver's would of had a heart attack.

I am similar to you OP, and have started to learn to become ok with it over time. But in the back of my head I still nag after the marks on my clasp.

If you have some budget, one thing I did do to help me was buy a replacement bracelet. I never used it, but found that knowing I had a good condition one tucked away (bought it used off here) somehow removed that nagging in the back of my head about stratching up the one on my wrist.

Yes, I know that seems silly to many people, but I know exactly how the OP feels and it just somehow completely solved the issue for me. It allowed me to enjoy the watch as it should be enjoyed, as I completely agree with everyone around the idea that you should wear and enjoy your watch.

The only way a watch will not scratch is not to wear it.
My 16570 is since yesterday in service at Rolex service center with the remark, not to polish. Polishing had no use IMHO because after a few weeks wearing the swirls (or worse) are back again. Just my 2cts.

I've found that titanium is much more resistant to desk-scratches. For whatever that may be worth...

Take it off while typing or computer work, back on as you leave the desk. Works perfect at home, maybe less easy in the office.

I have a small microfiber square that I tuck a corner under the corner of my keyboard. Works great.

I'm with everyone else. I used to dwell on that and now I couldn't care less. The only time it does bother me is when I use that stupid aluminum MacBook. When I use my surface with the alcantara keyboard, all is well in the world.

The scratches are your marks and your claim on the watch. Putting protective tape etc is being too over cautious with a tool watch. Trust me, the scratches on your Rolex are nothing compared to the scratches you get on a reverso.
