Bugger my new 16613 has lost 12 seconds in 3.5 hours

That’s pretty unacceptable in my eyes, by my rough calculation that’s going to work out to -82 seconds a day at this rate. Fortunately its still under warranty for 12 months, I made sure I got a mint one with warranty still remaining.


Can anyone advise what I do from here onwards?

Time it for at least a day before you jump to conclusions.

Perhaps take it to an AD and have it degaussed. Usually when a watch is running this far out of spec suddenly, it has been exposed to a magnetic field. Otherwise, it needs service and regulation.

Good advice. Give it 40 turns to ensure full power reserve. Any watch will operate poorly when on low power reserve.

I don't think that the time-source you used is an accurate one......

You want to use a source that is a legitimate time-standard, such as www.time.gov etc, and not one that simply reads your computer clock ..

That site you linked to is 5 seconds slow according to my newly refreshed radio-controlled clock.

Not all time sources on the internet are reliable.

Use http://www.time.gov/timezone.cgi?UTC/s/0/java

It's always on the money and even the propagation error is posted on the page, not that makes much difference timing an automatic wristwatch.

Wow all your comments regarding a full wind and the time source and eased my concerns a tad now. Thanks guys I will follow your advice and use a different time source.

First you cannot test any watch for accuracy the way you are doing it.First give your watch a full manual wind 40 full crown turns clockwise only.Then set watch with any reliable time source,then wear as normal.Check watch daily with the same setting time source over 5 days. Then average out the loss or gain over those 5 day for a accurate result.

It also takes a while for a new watch to run in. Depending on the tolerances some watches will run a little slow to begin with and then spot on after that. Give a couple of weeks.

Crisis averted it's actually less than 1.5 seconds fast over a 24 hr period.

You guys and your watches please dont get so obsessed with all this accuracy stuff. Just wear and check once a week then reset if you must, thats accurate enough even for todays hectic life, whats in a few seconds either way
