Should we have "likes" on the forum?

Seen it on other forums and it's a easy way to agree with someone or like their comments without quoting their comments or posting "agree". Seems efficient and curious to see what your thoughts are.

When this came up in the past, I always agreed, but I think I'm among the 1% that do. My opinion is most of those who type relative/useful comments are older and don't give a rats ass if people like their comment so they don't even give an opinion on the topic. The newer TRF crowd, who like to argue and provide snarky comments, couldn't live with seeing people not agree with them.

The other concern with some on here would be they wouldn't have the ridiculously high post count if they only had actual valid replies counted. Personally, that number means nothing to me, but it seems really important to some. Just about every week there is a thread created just to brag of reaching a number.

Likes are OK.

But .. DIS-likes are also important.

This forum and the threads contained within often get so off topic and unfortunately personal that there needs to be far more control over what is and more importantly is NOT said.

There are a few "Specialists" here that take delight in putting down anyone and just making a mockery of what is being said.

Thats what is far more important to be controlled IMHO.

No.

It's too lazy and banal. What are we, 10?

Isn't likes a facebook thing? I like a reply in words better than casually distributed likes.

The one thing I like on other forums is the ability to mention specific users with the at symbol ("@jpeezy14... blah blah").

Just a thought!

No

A discussion board invites discussion. There is no purpose to a "like" other than to feed the lazy egos of sad people

I'm on forums similar to TRF such as cars and sports, and the like button is present. When I started this thread I was not thinking of Facebook or social status in anyway but rather an "agree" with your post, idea, position response. I can see how some don't like the "like" button on Facebook, but that was not the intent of the thread in a forum specifically dedicated to common interests.

I think it would be helpful on "picture" threads such WRUW today, pic of the Omega/Breitling you're wearing today, collection threads, etc. This would reduce/eliminate the duplicate picture posts when quoted. We have polls and asking for likes is basically taking a poll.

I agree with you Jesse, that’s kind of cool how it auto populates on some forums.

It may also help to prevent pictures from being posted over and over in the same thread

I don't think "like" buttons would improve anything.

Make a meaningful and honest comment and let that suffice.

I like using the "like" button on some of the other forums I participate in, but I also understand why some people might not like the "like" button.

Here's what I will say in favor of it - it keeps post counts down on threads so it's easier to read on mobile devices and Tapatalk. Otherwise you are just scrolling through dozens upon dozens of emojis that don't carry through to Tapatalk. All I see is "" or whatever the manual code is to enter in something.

The lack of "likes" on my posts would make me feel inferior. I would think that I had to act nice to get more likes, rather than the grumpy old git that I really am in real life.
