When my wife started buying Rolex she was wearing a 26mm fashion watch, so she felt comfortable with 26mm and she started her collection there. I think she has a 26mm TT rose with a meteorite dial and a 26mm TT YG with emerald markers (jubilee).

Her next one was maybe a 28mm blue romans dial.

Then… 31mm YM platinum bezel. This is still her favorite watch, it’s all scratched up from wear.

After that she got the RG chocolate Daytona but ended up trading it. She had a OP purple dial and traded that. All her other Rolex pieces are 31mm.

Over 31mm she has:

FPJ CB - dailied this one for maybe 2 years, 39mm
40mm white dial Panerai, rarely worn
GS she wears on a strap, maybe 40mm?

So she has a versatile collection but seems to be centered around 31mm.

As such, I think the OP’s wife should go in and check for size. She might like the smaller size even if she normally wears larger.

His AD won’t be getting another one. That’s how scarce they are. Grey is his only option.

Pretty funny comment, out of touch with reality.

I purchased a 36 CELB watch for my wife, 4 week wait after asking AD in Sydney.

Just got a message from my friend in UK.

He travels 40 weeks a year around the world.

On this trip, his wife went with him, a rare occurrence.

Blah blah blah, truth of the matter is they were in a "smaller town" in the UK, completely, and accidentally visited an AD while walking down the street, and they saw an OP36 in the window.

Entered the shop, bought the watch. No previous, no jewelry, no nothing. Walked in without watch. Walked out with watch. They even got a bottle of champagne and a couple of Rolex golf hats.

Nobody, a celeb, nobody a VVIP, etc....

Almost all Rolex are unobtainable for many, but "somebody" is buying 1 million (estimated of course), watches every year!

Celebration OP for wife dilemma

There are always stories of people getting uncharacteristically lucky. Generally speaking, though, it’s extremely difficult to get a Celebration dial OP, as can be seen by secondary market pricing. As I mentioned earlier, my AD has never gotten any. His chain owns 3 Rolex ADs, and they’ve never seen one. I surmise that Rolex only manufactured a limited number of them.

WoW Kat, that is truly amazing.

Sometimes better to be "lucky" than good. At least that's what us airline pilots say !!

Thanks for perspective...

I personally have purchased so many Rolex "out of the country" without "history" I'm sure my view of these things is skewed towards "available".

But I'm with you. You want one, buy it from a trusted seller on this blog. If they were selling replicas, everyone would know about it, and trouble would follow.

FYI to all, every AD included the white tag @!

Let’s not get into the white hang/hand tag again….

P.S. I do have all mine..

I think that is likely not true and you are being fed a typical story so that you don’t expect one.

I must say I agree, while some calling me non VIP here for "only" getting 31.
At first my ADs new SA told me they will get none and later another new SA who did not know about me - said there is only for display that owns by rolex
But it must be that they get a few, that they get allocated out so fast they must lie.
We shall see how it goes for wife, maybe I can get a 36 instead down the road. My store is good overall.

Just in the USA, about 40 million lightning strikes hit the ground each year, too.

But in 2023 no TRFer got one.

Just a slant on probability. And USA represents less than 2% of global landmass.

Maybe next year Rolex will send out more. We’ve noticed they tend to deliver sought after models to the different ADs about the same time. So, if your AD just got one of each size in, other ADs may have also. It’s possible they will get more next year. The ADs will have just given Rolex their wish lists for the coming year.

Since OP got a Rainbow Daytona he is definitely a special customer (VIP) with his AD. And since they allocated him that RNBW they probably feel they have taken good care of him in and need to take care of other VIPs in the short term which is probably why they aren’t allocating the 36.

This doesn’t mean his AD no longer values him as a customer but they need to feed some other mouths with the super in-demand pieces for now. It’s a cycle.

OP will be blessed with some special pieces again….unless he flips that RNBW!

It doesn’t matter if you wanted one or not. They’re still going to give the company line: “we’ve never seen one”

It’s just easier for them. I totally get it and it doesn’t bother me. A white lie to avoid discussing a sensitive subject, how they allocate. Who is chosen and who is not chosen.

The line also helps to build brand allure and exclusivity.

What's to stop you getting the 31mm Celebration, curry additional favor with the AD and then swapping it out for the 36mm Celebration with additional $$$ with a Trusted Dealer here. It seems like a win win all the way around, everybody's happy.

I don't want to ruin my AD relationship, they might ask where my 31 is and then i'm out...

After getting RNBOW they are also more open with the truth and now always tells me right out if I can't get a piece rather than the fake list.

Wait for the 36mm. If you get the 31 she'll probably never wear it.

With all due respect, you know nothing about my relationship with my SA, who is more of a confidante, than a mere business associate. Though your SAs may be blowing smoke up your bum, I know mine is being honest. He’s not just a salesperson, and Asst. Mgr. of Devon’s flagship Rolex AD, but one of us, a real watch lover. Not all SAs are created equal.

Hmmm... this thread reminds me of a song:

No,

You can't

You can't always get

But if you try sometime you'll find
You get what you need

This is the same AD that sold you the Wimbledon that was supposedly just declined by a customer but this watch was actually an in stock exhibition model that was there for the previous months that was fondles by numerous customers? Some AD are just story tellers…so many stories told that they can’t keep the story straight.
