New Zealand South Island trip (April 2016)

Went to NZ for a photo trip with a group of photographers, hard work but fun.
The shots are taken with a Sony A7R2 with either the Loxia 21mm or Loxia 50mm lens, all on tripod.

Awesome shots!

I'm taking my family on a North Island trip this summer. South Island next time. I feel like I'd need 3 solid weeks in the SI, since we tend to travel without a tight schedule.

How long was your trip? Probably super organized, so maybe you squeezed it down quite a bit?

Hi, I joined a photo tour hosted by a photographer I followed. He drove the minibus with total 8 persons (including him). It was a 5 days/4 nights trip that started and stopped in Christchurch. Since it was a photo trip, the important thing was to shoot sunset and sunrise so we structured our destinations all according to sunrise, sunset, moon rise/set schedules. (It was a full moon cycle that trip so astro shots were totally out). i.e. we are set to go shooting at 5:30am, sunrise around 7am so everything is done by 8am, then we have breakfast and go back to shower etc, then go out for places that full sun is ok to shoot, then chase sunset and then dinner. If the moon weren't there we would go and shoot stars but this time none of that.
If you really want to explore South Island, I would say 2 weeks. Ours was a very condensed trip also taking advantage of a public holiday weekend.

Hi Kai,

Nice pix, I spent a lot of time in the South Island of NZ back in the 70's.

It's an amazing place especially on the west coast and Invercargill/Bluff.
Great trout fishing down there.

Eddie.

@Eddie, I didn't go far south this trip and also didn't go west.
Will try again next year! Just wishing I'll catch some aurora while I'm there next time :)

Amazing shots! I'm sure the camera makes a difference, but it's takes serious talent to capture images like that!
