Super Precision 6422
Greetings: This is my first vintage Rolex and my first time here. In researching this watch this is the only "Super Precision" I've seen that just says "Oyster". Every other one I've found says "Oyster Perpetual Explorer", "Oyster Perpetual" or "Oyster Perpetual Air-King".
Does anyone have information to share about this? Many thanks. |

No "perpetual" because it's hand-winding, not auto-winding.

That's what I'm curious about. It's the only Super Precision I've seen that's not Perpetual.

Maybe you should clarify your question and show photos? I'm really not sure what you are asking or even if the watch is legit.

Thank you for responding. I'm trying to take a photo that shows the details but in the meantime here's the description:
At the top under the crown: ROLEX Oyster At the bottom, above the "6": SUPER PRECISION It's has a Serial Number and has been authenticated. But, I haven't seen another Rolex that just says "Super Precision" and that does not also say "Perpetual" (or "Perpetual Air-King" or "Perpetual Explorer") so I'm curious about anything I can learn about it. Thanks. Hi Dan: My response to you wound up with a moderator for some reason but I think I figured out how to attach the photo. My apologies - I'm new at this (as well as to the world of vintage Rolex). Last edited by Tools; 24 January 2024 at 08:09 AM.. |

It is neither an Explorer or an Air King, which are all "perpetual", in that they are self wind.
This one is a manual wind Oyster, likely from the mid/late 50's. The dial is often referred to as an "Explorer 3 6 9" dial because they were commonly used on the Explorer.

Thanks for responding. My curiosity has been piqued because I've never seen a manual Oyster Super Precision.

I don't know that I would put a lot of faith in early cosmetics as many have been re-done over the last half century.
Precision and Super Precision were used in different markets in the early days.

I've never even owned a watch as I always thought they were functional items that didn't give me any info I didn't already have. And then I visited a vintage Rolex booth at a flea market in Montreal and realized that these are works of art. It took me a bit of searching to discover what MY watch looked like - black dial, stainless steel case, silver hands, black leather strap, about 34mm, with at least some Arabic numbers and from the 1950's/60's.
And then I found this one - exactly what I was looking for! It's even more beautiful than I thought so I'm just curious about it's background as it seems a bit unique from what I've seen. It's a 1954. |
