DD questions

Two questions for the DD experts of the group:
a. What are the differences between the 18238 and 118238?
b. When was the change in model numbers instigated?

To all outward appearances, they are the same. There was some modification made to the movement and thus the extra '1' was added in front to the model number.

This change came about the year 2000 as far as I know.

Thanks JJ. Interesting info on the movement. I was under the impression that the 3135 was the same.
Has the bracelet/clasp remained the same?

The 18238 and the 118238 both enjoy the same movement being the cal. 3155.
The appearance of the 18238 is different from the 118238 only slightly, in that the former had the top of the lugs with a brushed finish, the latter has highly polished lugs. There is a slight difference in the shape of the cases.
The 18238 had hollow centre links whereas the 118238 has solid centre links (president bracelet). I believe the clasp on the 118238 has recently (in the last year or so) changed too.
There is also now a slight change to the stick dial on the 118238 where the stick hour markers are now luminous instead of a small dot at the outer edge of each marker.

Here's my 1986 18238:

It's got a single quickset - date is quick set; day is set by rotating the hands.

One more IMPORTANT change: 118238 has DOMED crystal, 18238 and previous is flat. Yes on all comments posted above, the clasp just changed but you can not tell this if the watch is on your wrist.

Good point about the domed crystal.
The 18238 was first released in 1988 and was a double quickset. I believe the single quickset model is the 18038.
Anyway, the Day Date is a great watch, and can also be considered to be a tool watch in my book as Red Adair is testiment to that:)
